Harris County Public Library – Parker Williams Branch, Southeast Harris County
This position is responsible for identifying and interpreting user needs; planning and implementing a variety of adult programs to encourage library usage and to foster community relations; providing exceptional customer service, reference, and readers' advisory; and assisting Library patrons in the use of library services, facilities, and equipment. The incumbent will exemplify the high standards and expectations of the County library system in its daily operations and services.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates, and promotes adult services and programs, including Summer Reading and other special events
Identifies informational needs in the community and plans and provides services to meet those needs
Provides reader's advisory and reference services
Develops a highly-visible public relations program for adult services in the community
Develops an engaging and attractive adult library collection through awareness of current adult literature
Attends staff meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serves on committees
Implements knowledge of current trends in adult services and programs
Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Master of Library Science (MLS) Degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited institution
At least one (1) year of Customer Service experience
At least one (1) year working directly with Adults
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Proficient with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
Proficient with the Internet and Office 365

Additional Requirements:
Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
Ability to work well with public and staff members
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment

Physical Requirements
This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job typically operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment and possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes. There could be exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.

HOURS:
Full-Time; 40 hours a week
Typical shifts are Day, Evening, Nights, Weekends, etc.

SALARY:
$20.96 per Hour
Paid Biweekly

Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
