Hanover: Assistant Montessori Teacher

Skipwith Academy - Ashland, VA


Skipwith Academy is seeking an experienced Assistant Teacher for our Montessori Program at our Hanover location in Ashland, VA. The Montessori program supports the physical, cognitive and the social/emotional development of each child. Teachers in this program will help children expand their fine and gross motor skills, language development, problem-solving and self-help skills.

We provide engaging educational experiences for infants through school age children that meet their emotional, physical, social and intellectual needs.

The qualified candidate will:

  • Be committed to helping Skipwith Academy continue to set the standard for high quality child care at every level.
  • Meet the individual needs of the children.
  • Work closely with the Lead Teacher to implement developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Implement lesson plans created by the lead teacher.
  • Participate in staff trainings and required teacher trainings.
  • Establish positive and effective communication and relationships with families.
  • Interact with all children to support play, exploration and learning.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with center director(s).
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, loving, and nurturing environment for all children.
  • Have the ability to lift 50 pounds.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – (Must have one of the following):

  • Current CDA; or
  • Current and active enrollment in an accredited Associates or Bachelor’s degree program; or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with minimum 1 year teaching experience at a child care facility.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 months experience working in a licensed child care facility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

This is a full-time hourly position. Benefits include but are not limited to: Medical and dental; child care discounts; 401k retirement plan; vacation; and 7 paid holidays. Educational reimbursement after one (1) year of employment.
