Job Summary
The Behavioral Health Worker functions under the direct supervision of the provider. The Behavioral Health Worker assists the provider with direct patient care and assists with establishing priorities in the delivery of patient care.
Duties
- Demonstrates competency and professional responsibility of the Behavioral Health Worker role
- Assists a provider in preparing, administering, and supervising treatment plans; evaluates treatment progress and effects modifications as appropriate; and assists in assessing and providing services in crisis situations
- Provides information to staff responsible for patient diagnosis and treatment
- Collects and records pertinent social data; prepares daily records and summarizes progress of treatment for clients; maintains other records and prepares various reports:
- Observe for, and document changes in patients’ appearance, behavior, and ability to work toward treatment plan goals
- Uses knowledge of pathophysiologic, spiritual, psychological, and age-related needs of patients to determine expected responses to treatment, medication and environment

- Employs principles of communication, interviewing techniques, and problem solving and crisis intervention when performing psychotherapeutic intervention
- Provides patient/family education
- Provide education and maintains a therapeutic environment in collaboration with the patient and other health care providers, in accordance with patients’ age related needs
- Promotes learning experiences and provides educational material to patient and their families
- Explains discharge instructions as directed
- Evaluates and documents effectiveness of all patient teaching
- Provides opportunities for patients and families to question, discuss and explore their feelings about prescribed therapies/interventions/diagnosis
- Communicates relevant patient information
- Reports changes in patients status to the provider
- Documents care consistent with hospital charting standards
- Assists Medical Assistant in front and back office duties
- Uses appropriate telephone etiquette
- Documents appointments with accurate patient information
- Documents and makes physician and agency referrals
