POSITION PURPOSE

This role is for a Senior Indirect Tax Accountant on the sales & use tax audit defense team. The role of the audit defense team is to work with outside government auditors to ensure Home Depot’s compliance with the applicable taxing jurisdiction’s sales and use tax laws. Subsequent to the completion of an audit, the audit defense team is tasked with working cross-functionally to implement remediation procedures. Additionally, this role will involve cross-functional support for the sales tax systems and compliance teams.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

75% Audit Defense work - Assist with the tax audit process by working with auditors, preparing analysis and detailed audit support. This person will also assist the Indirect Tax Audit Manager as needed with other indirect tax assessments, tax audits, refund requests.

20% Participation in cross-functional collaboration with sales tax, systems, compliance, and tax accounting teams. May lead or participate in special studies to determine tax implications of company operations. Research and respond to store and customer inquiries and jurisdiction notices.

5% Coaching and mentoring of associates in the department.

NATURE AND SCOPE
Reports to Tax Manager
No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: assign and review work, train and contribute to performance appraisal (but not hiring, firing or disciplinary action).

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 2 years

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Additional Qualifications:
Demonstrate technical tax skills appropriate for the years of experience in the one or more tax disciplines. Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage and implement multiple complex projects, people management, and communications to both technical and non-technical audiences. Proven analytical and problem resolution skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Soft Skills - Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written skills to properly communicate company processes and policies to external auditors and also prepare and document audit finding memorandums. Experience researching state & local tax laws and regulations using third party tax research tools such as CCH. Ability to work on special projects within a team environment.
Education - Accounting Degree, JD or other degree with a focus in Tax, Accounting, or Financial Systems.
Software Skills - Experience working with large volumes of data using database tools, data analytics and warehousing programs such as Google BigQuery, Teradata, Alteryx, and Tableau highly preferred.
CPA, CMI, or JD Preferred
3-5 years Experience Preferred
