JOB SUMMARY / GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The role of Operations Manager at Hines Trucking, Inc. (HTI) is to ensure customer satisfaction and fleet performance through management of day to day operations. The Operations Manager will lead the development of new business and maintain existing business relationships with HTI customers, outside vendors, and will support all HTI departments by adhering to company policies and standard operating procedures at all times. The Operations Manager will direct Driver Managers in all assignments including the management of mill (customer) volumes and service issues, improving operating efficiencies, maintaining accurate equipment assignments on all drivers, ensuring accuracy of equipment assigned to orders; i.e. unit #, trailer #, driver, fleet, and terminal. Additionally, the Operations Manager must never jeopardize the integrity of the company, safety, customers, or themselves while representing HTI.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage HTI goals and strategies to increase profitability of Operations
  • Communicate staffing/operational deficiencies to management on a daily basis
  • Ensure all HTI policies are adhered to and supported by all employees
  • Lead employee development by communicating skill deficiencies directly, and in a manner which follows HTI company policy
  • Negotiate with customers to develop, maintain, and/or improve both new and existing business relationships
  • Lead and direct Driver Managers in order to improve operating efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize fleet revenue
  • Ensure safety compliance and support through encouragement, daily, with all HTI employees
  • Negotiate with outside vendors and HTI management team to reduce operating costs
  • Ensure your support of all HTI departments and their requirements
  • Ensure integrity of self, business and safety is not jeopardized in daily decisions
  • Ensure completion of any other duties assigned by management in a timely manner

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 – 10 years of experience in transportation with increasing level of responsibility
  • 2 or more years of experience in operations management with direct supervisory responsibility
  • 2 or more years of experience in asset management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred, not required
  • Preferred experience with TMW Software or similar Transportation Software, Excel, MS Word, and Access programs or similar programs
  • Management of large numbers of transportation industry staff with expertise in hiring, training, motivating, and resolving employee relations issues
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and inter-company memos/outside correspondence
  • Detailed understanding of financial statements and resulting cost implications. Possess ability to identify financial issues and provide cost effective solutions to such issues
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, vendors and employees
  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret and extensive variety of instructions with several abstract and concrete variables
