CommuniCare Health Centers is a Federally Qualified Health Center providing comprehensive patient-centered primary care services including medical, dental, substance abuse treatment, behavioral health and outreach services to low income, multi-ethnic, uninsured and underinsured populations.

CommuniCare is looking for an experienced Acupuncturist to join our dynamic team .Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the acupuncturist will utilize acupuncture to stimulate certain points on or near the surface of the body by the insertion of needles to prevent or modify the perception of pain or to normalize physiological functions. Acupuncture will be provided in a group setting.

Part-time position. 4-8 hours per week, Monday-Friday evenings. Office located in the administrative headquarters of CommuniCare Health Centers at the Davis facility. Occasional travel between sites in Davis, West Sacramento and Woodland may be required.

  • Develops new acupuncture program for CommuniCare patients and provides group community acupuncture to CommuniCare patients with opportunity to expand to individual appointments.
  • According to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western diagnostic techniques, diagnose disease; develop appropriate treatment plans, which may include various treatment modalities within the current scope of practice for acupuncturists as defined by the California Medical Board to include performing acupuncture to assist with the relief of pain and illness; performing needle insertions using pre-sterilized, single-use, filiform needles; using, maintaining, sterilizing, and troubleshooting acupuncture equipment and instruments as needed; and ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Case manage and coordinate patient care with other providers and specialists.
  • Document all treatments and patient’s response to acupuncture therapy in the electronic health record.
  • Develop and maintain marketing materials and outreach plan to educate clinical staff and patients on acupuncture services.
  • Conduct presentations to staff on acupuncture services.


Education: Master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine or Oriental Medicine. ACAOM accredited education (Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine); Post-graduate degree preferred; i.e., Ph.D. in related fields, N.D. (Doctor of Naturopathy), D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine). NCCAOM Certification (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) preferred. Must possess a current/valid Licensed Acupuncturist from the State of California. Current documentation of CPR certification is required.

Experience: Two years’ experience working as an acupuncturist is required, ideally in a community setting. Experience working in a health center environment and a demonstrated commitment to comprehensive care for low income clients is ideal.

Special Skills/Equipment: Bilingual Spanish/English preferred. Ability to operate all equipment used in the clinic sites. Must be able to maintain current credentialing and privileges for CommuniCare and contracted health plans. Experience using electronic health records strongly preferred.

Flexibility and willingness to work enthusiastically with changing priorities. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to understand and follow written/verbal instructions required. Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals, externally and internally at all organizational levels.

Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, computer equipment. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, with occasional walking. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, reach with hands and arms, and to lift 25 lbs. Hearing and close vision abilities required. Work is performed in a typical office environment with moderate equipment noise. Travel to all agency sites required.
