GreenVest is seeking an energetic and diverse candidate with a passion for aquatic ecosystem restoration with an emphasis on stream and wetland systems for an entry-level Field technician position.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Minimum Skills & Experience
Bachelor of Science Degree in Life Sciences (Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Fisheries, Forestry, Soil Science, Water Resources, etc.) or related field of study.
1-3+ years related experience.
Implementing or constructing ecosystem restoration or landscape project work independently or under the direction of a Field Supervisor.
Native planting, seeding, installation of erosion control measures, herbicide application or any other field activities necessary to implement GV’s ecosystem restoration projects.
Possession of the Maryland Applicators License preferred, ability to secure the Applicators License and apply herbicides in aquatic environs is mandatory.
Field data collection and sampling techniques including ecological surveys/inventories, monitoring well and stream gauge installation, automated data logger operation/installation and data collection.
Ability to complete physically demanding work in challenging outdoor settings.
Effective communication and organizational skills.
Desired Experience & Skills
Experience in native and invasive species plant identification and/or restoration techniques.
Experience operating equipment such as tractors, ATV’s, chainsaws, and/ or skid-steers.
Practical experience in identifying, planning, designing, and/or constructing aquatic ecosystem restoration projects (strong preference for Maryland experience).
Practical experience in conducting annual monitoring of stream and/or wetland restoration projects including data collection, data reduction and report preparation preferred Direct experience in ecosystem restoration with a focus on wetland and/or stream systems.
Ecosystem restoration construction oversight, including: construction quality control, and soil erosion and sediment control inspection and compliance.
Practical application of stream and/or wetland functional assessment models.
2+ years of ESRI-related development preferred (ArcMAP, ArcObjects, ArcGIS API)
GPS based sampling, data collection and reduction.
Strong organizational skills are a must where effective research and technical writing skills are preferred. Ability to work in physically demanding and challenging outdoor settings is mandatory. Must be able to work effectively in team settings as well as independently with minimal supervision and direction. People skills must include the ability to communicate effectively colleagues. Desirable software skills include PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, ArcMap and basic AutoCAD. The level of experience can range from entry level to three (3) years, with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and passion for and devotion to the profession of ecosystem restoration and environmental protection.
