The Communication and Marketing Specialist within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) supports the division through developing and managing clear, effective, consistent communications programs and processes in alignment with DIT’s mission, vision, goals, and core values. The Specialist will be responsible for the development of effective and targeted communication and marketing campaigns that inform university community members about DIT services and programs and advance the division’s identity. The Specialist will prepare and distribute communications to the all-campus audience and subsets of the university community; develop communication strategy for DIT, publicizing resources to university constituents (and externally, if appropriate); manage DIT’s website and social networking channels; and assist with IT-related promotional and outreach activities. The Communication and Marketing Specialist reports to the Assistant Vice President of Academic Technology and Innovation.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, English, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
A minimum of 10 years experience in communications and marketing, which includes experience supporting successful communications programs utilizing writing, web content development/management, social media, electronic communications, graphic design, and event production.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate succinctly to a variety of audiences, both technical and non-technical.
Ability to work concurrently on multiple projects, adjust to changes in priorities, and respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to work independently and within a group as needed.
- Customer service focused with a wide range of experience in communicating IT services.
- Familiar with existing services and IT systems deployed at UMD.
- Strong collaborative skills working with a variety of diverse constituencies.
- Experience with website development, content management, and email management software.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
- Experience supervising student staff or others.
- Proficiency in and willingness to learn learn new technologies related to Web development.
