What we do:
The Markets Group of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York implements monetary policy on behalf of the Federal Reserve System and acts as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury. The Analytical Development (AD) staff within the Markets Group conducts quantitative analysis of financial markets to support the Group’s operational and market monitoring responsibilities
You will manage the team’s critical operational models, including the domestic and foreign relative value models that support Treasury market operations and foreign reserves management, and apply econometric and asset pricing models for use in the ongoing analysis of financial markets. Typical areas of model-based analysis include the term structure of interest rates, interest rate volatility, inflation compensation, interbank funding markets, securitized products, and foreign exchange, with an emphasis on the impact of monetary policy decisions on these and other asset prices.
You will ideally have a foundational understanding of monetary policy theory, monetary policy implementation, central bank operations, econometrics, and asset pricing and be eager and quick to learn and improve on these skills.
Your role as the Quantitative Analytics Associate:
Manage and extend the domestic and foreign relative value models for use in Treasury operations and the Federal Reserve’s foreign reserves portfolios
Partner with stakeholders throughout the Bank while advising and recommending approaches to non-technical decision-makers
Apply models for use in ongoing market analysis and in the formulation, implementation, and assessment of monetary policy, working with Markets Group staff covering foreign exchange, fixed income, equity, credit, mortgage, and money markets
Structure, maintain, and analyze large time series and panel data sets
Contribute to projects focused on analysis of market and policy developments, published for audiences throughout the Federal Reserve System
Expand understanding of financial and macroeconomic theory and empirical methods
Program in statistical programs for data analysis such as Matlab, Python, Stata, and R
What we are looking for:
Graduate degree in finance, economics, or related discipline preferred
Experience conducting quantitative analysis on financial or economic data, with an understanding of macroeconomics, the interaction of financial markets with the real economy, and the role of the Federal Reserve in the economy
Experience with Statistical Software such as Matlab, Stata, Python or R
