The Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety is a state agency that uses communications, research, and data analysis to support the efforts of providers, policymakers, and consumers working toward safer health care in Massachusetts. The Center was re-established by Chapter 224 of the Acts of 2012, An Act Improving the Quality of Health Care and reducing Costs through Increased Transparency, Efficiency and Innovation, and its operations are supported by the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA).
The Center seeks an experienced proofreader with a sharp eye and strong attention to detail. The successful candidate will have the ability to read onscreen text efficiently while also taking great care with highly-sensitive, personal health information.
This is a part-time, temporary position at the Center's offices on Boylston Street in Boston during typical office hours, averaging 10-15 hours per week from mid-May to the end of June, with the likelihood of continuing on an approximately 20-hour/month schedule thereafter. Please note that working offsite is not an option for this position.
The position will remain open until filled with an hourly rate of: $25-$35
Proofread on-screen text from reports made to the state by health care providers
Redact/replace identifying pieces of information about patients and other material with generic information
Correct punctuation and spelling as needed
A bachelor's degree
At least one year (and preferably three) paid experience as a proofreader or copy editor
A high level of skill in written English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation
Strong attention to detail and ability to stay focused on a task for extended periods of time
Ability to take direction
Prior work with medical information or records helpful but not required
