Lifestyle Specialist (Resident Experience Specialist) - NEW Urban Senior Living in NYC!
Inspīr Senior Living, Maplewood Senior Living’s new brand of world-class, urban senior living properties, is now hiring Lifestyle Specialist (Resident Experience Specialists) for its new Inspīr Carnegie Hill property. Set to open in early 2020, Inspīr Carnegie Hill is located on the Upper East Side and stands 23 stories with 215 residential units. It will offer assisted living, enhanced care and memory care with a unique and innovative Integrated Care Model. The Resident Experience Specialist Role: Develops, coordinates, and implements all programs and ensures that they are therapeutic to the residents and maximizes residents’ quality of life. Programs include a full range of social, physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and purposeful programs to meet overall well being of our residents. Responds to and adjusts programs based on residents’ feedback, suggestions and complaints.
Provides outstanding customer service to all residents, family members, responsible persons, and visitors of residents in the community
Ensures therapeutic recreation programming meets all state, federal and other regulations
Able to relate professionally and positively to residents, physicians, government regulators, incoming visitors and associates at all levels
Attends Monthly All Associate meetings and Bi-Monthly Regional meetings
Assists with maintaining Schedule K binder of all residents’ information regarding resident preferences around HIPAA (i.e., photo release, programming opt-out, etc.)
Follows emergency procedures and understands the safety practices and procedures
Ensures a monthly program calendar is designed and implemented based on residents’ abilities, interests, hobbies, religion and work/volunteer experience
Plans, implements, and conducts/monitors recreational programs to meet the needs of all residents
Selects, schedules and leads activities appropriate for all levels and abilities
Assists with coordination with transportation of residents for outings and events outside of the community, which may include driving a community motor vehicle
Assists with planning and implementation of special events for the community, at least one family event per quarter
Assists with completion of Staying Connected Form/Personal History Form for all residents, maintains a binder of forms and utilizes the information when creating the recreation program calendar
Ensures and maintains appropriate program supplies for recreation programs
Assists Resident Experience Director with keeping current a list of local entertainers who will provide entertainment and ensures that a full activity program is offered seven days a week, including evenings and holidays
Posts the current monthly, weekly and daily schedule of activities in public areas and distributes to Department Managers
In the absence of Resident Experience Director, co-leads monthly Resident Council Meeting with General Manager and works with General Manager on agenda
In the absence of Resident Experience Director, co-Leads a monthly Culinary Service Meeting with the Executive Chef for the residents to provide feedback
Provides a daily afternoon social or Happy Hour
Assists the Resident Experience Director to hold a monthly Activity Committee Meeting to provide residents opportunity to give input into the monthly calendar of events
Meets with residents and families to identify resident interests, resolve concerns, and develop meaningful relationships
Includes annual Inspir-theme programming on monthly calendar and hold events
Provides information to Concierge to assist residents in organizing self-directed programming - e.g. contact lists for Bridge Club, etc., phone numbers
Assists with touring and providing information about Inspir therapeutic recreation programs to families of prospective residents
Develops and distributes a monthly calendar and newsletter
Assists with taking photos of new residents within 24 hours of move in and ensures staff is oriented to new resident
Personable, reliable and a great communicator and team player
Demonstrate requisite knowledge, skills and abilities consistent with the duties and responsibilities of this position
Carries out other duties as assigned
An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university or satisfactory completion of two years of college, with major work in recreation, occupational therapy, gerontology or a related field, or two years of full-time experience in the recreation field with an adult population
Must possess a passion for working with the senior population and improving their quality of life
Excellent communication, organization and time management skill
Basic typing skills and computer knowledge (familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Publisher and creative software)
Experience in activity planning with seniors preferred
Demonstrated organizational skills and creativity
Must be mature with a friendly and cheerful personality
Driver Requirements: Valid Driver’s license required with appropriate driving record. May be required to take driving test
Able to convey and understand information and ideas in English
Be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary
Work well in stressful, high pressure situations and be able to maintain composure and objectivity
Be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by residents and guests
Able to maintain positive working relationships with residents, their families, peers and other staff members.
Must be authorized to legally work in the United States. Criminal background check required.
