The Opportunity:

We deliver a level of customer service that goes above and beyond what the customer expects. We cover a wide range of media content including movies, television programs and videos. Under the direction of the Prerecorded Captioning supervisors and leads, the Caption Editor creates closed captions for broadcast and non-broadcast programs for the deaf and hard of hearing audience.

GENERAL CRITERIA: Proofreading/editing experience and computer literacy necessary. Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment and familiarity with broadcast television a plus. Skills should include good communication, problem solving ability, and an engaged and creative attitude.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Generating high-quality caption files in a timely manner using EZTitles captioning software, by transcribing and reviewing from scratch, utilizing client-provided transcript or scripts, and/or proofing independent contractor files.
Transcribe audio accurately at 60 words per minute or faster
Learn and conform to in-house quality and style standards as set forth in the Captionmax Manual of Style, as well as individual client and series style guides
Research and confirm spellings of specialized terminology and proper names using Internet and/or document research
Review captioned programs for accuracy, synchronization of captions with audio, completeness, and screen placement in order to meet FCC guidelines for closed captioning.
Flag and escalate any issues encountered during production as necessary
Log accurate time on task in scheduling database
Continuous improvement based on constructive feedback of work
Meet established time-on-task and quality standards
Troubleshoot problems with and fix errors in caption and subtitle files
Communicate discrepancies or questions to supervisor or captioning lead
Implement performance goals as assigned by your supervisor
Participate in department, shift, and all-staff meetings as necessary
Represent and implement company goals and interests
Perform other duties as assigned
Scheduling

This opportunity is FT working a Monday-Friday schedule of 4:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. This position is scheduled to work an 8 hour shift.
Flexibility is required to cover programming events. Must have the ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays as necessary to meet program coverage commitments.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Excellent command of English grammar and spelling
Exceptional organization, time management, and communication skills
Good ear for conversational, colloquial, and accented speech
Typing speed of at least 60 wpm
Demonstrated experience with technology, including Microsoft Office
Ability to work both independently AND collaboratively in team environments

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education a plus, but degree completion not required. BA in English, Communications, or Journalism or equivalent experience preferred
