Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA)

Anchor Health is seeking a professional Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to provide LGBTQ-competent, high-quality, and compassionate care. This position will perform clinical functions such as patient rooming, obtaining vital signs, phlebotomy, assisting with procedures, and other specimen collection. This position will also be responsible for administrative tasks such as insurance prior authorizations, answering patient phone calls, pre-visit planning and chart review, regulatory documentation, and responding to patient and provider requests in the electronic medical record.

Responsibilities:
- Completing insurance prior authorizations for medications and diagnostic exams
- Answering patient phone calls concerning medication refills/problems and other clinical questions
- Pre-visit planning and chart review
- Scheduling and rescheduling of patient appointments
- Regulatory documentation including temperature logging
- CLIA quality control testing, CLIA waived point of care testing, and completing relevant laboratory trainings
- Responding to patient and provider requests in the electronic medical record.
- Performing phlebotomy, and other specimen collection. Prepare specimens appropriately for external laboratory processing
- Provide exceptional patient-centered care that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for patient populations
- Assist providers with patient visits, including routine follow-ups, physical exams, urgent/sick visits, pre- and post-operative visits, procedures, and telehealth
- Complete comprehensive “rooming” for in-person and video visits which includes vital signs, medication reconciliation, administering questionnaires, and prepping patients for various procedures
- Provide patients with LGBTQ-competent referrals for other health and social services
- Perform high quality documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), Epic
- Conduct point of care testing (POCT) and adhere to all test instructions and quality control procedures
- Maintaining exam rooms, cleaning between patients, stocking materials.
- Perform 12-lead electrocardiogram testing (ECG)
- Participate in regular staff and clinician meetings
- Participate in various Anchor Health community events and activities
- Actively engage in organization-wide cultural competency training
- Other relevant duties as assigned by the Head of Nursing, Registered Nurse, and/or medical provider.

Requirements:
o Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists
OR
o Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by American Association of Medical Assistants
· At least 1 year of clinical experience as a medical assistant
·At least 1 year of administrative experience as a medical assistant
· Ability to interact professionally and problem solve with all members of the clinical care team, including patients and families, medical staff, pharmacy, nursing, case management, administration, and others
· Experience maintaining a trauma-informed space
· Ability to relate to a broad range of people and communicate clearly, using tact, discretion, and sensitivity with patients
· References required for short-listed candidates
· A criminal background check absent offenses impacting ability to perform role
Preferred requirements:
· Spanish language fluency
· Clinical experience working with the LGBTQ community and awareness of needs specific to this population
· At least 1 year of experience providing gender-affirming care or HIV prevention and treatment services
· Working knowledge of Epic (EHR)
Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time, nonexempt, position. The expected salary range is between $21/hr-$25/hr, commensurate with experience.
