Who We Are:
2K develops and publishes interactive entertainment globally for console systems, handheld gaming devices, and personal computers, including smartphones and tablets. 2K is a leading publisher of today’s most popular gaming genres and most well-known for critically acclaimed game franchises like NBA 2K, WWE 2K, Bioshock, Borderlands, Evolve, XCOM, the Mafia series, and the beloved Sid Meier’s Civilization.
We are 2K’s motion capture studio looking for set/prop fabricators to fill a 6 month contracted position, with possible extension up to 1 year. The studio is in Petaluma, California. We are looking to bring in new fabricator for our demanding shoot schedule. If you aren't familiar with motion capture: actors wear suits with reflective markers attached to their joints. In capturing talents movement the data is then retarget to animated characters.
What We Need:
We have a small fabrication team that works well together to get set pieces made in an efficient and timely manner from conception to use on stage. Fabricators must be safe and comfortable using various saws, power tools, and building techniques. You’ll need to be good at taking direction and willing to adapt to sudden requests. Past work in a theatre/film production is a major plus. This is a fast-paced environment with multiple projects with their own specific needs. Set builds are somewhat simple, but can require out of the box thinking, for example: we’ll build a skeleton of a kitchen with functioning cabinets and drawers, assembling the framework of cabinets to have visibility for the cameras and keep track of props inside. Occasionally, we have more dynamic builds like parkour equipment and trick/stunt props. We are filming motion capture, so not a lot of finishing woodwork, but good, solid, and safe surfaces for talent to interact with are very important. We are dedicated to making builds safe, sturdy, to scale, and easy for our cameras to have visibility of the talent. We work Monday- Friday with occasional opportunity for overtime.
What You Will Do:
Construct props and set pieces for stage use
Work efficiently both independently and with a team
Industry best practices regarding safety procedures
Able to read and interpret build designs
Troubleshooting complicated builds, especially stunt builds
Thoroughly understand performance and build needs
Must be organized, detail-oriented, and have an eye for quality
Willingness to modify builds as needed
Comfortable working in a fast pace environment and adaptable to changes
Maintain shop organization and cleanliness throughout the day
Uphold a professional work environment
Comfortable learning and operating a scissor lift
Who We Think Will Be A Great Fit:
A great fit for our team has a positive attitude and enjoys fabrication. We like folks that abide by and encourage teammates to work in a safe and constructive environment. We’re an easy-going bunch that enjoys personalities with the knowledge of how to conduct themselves professionally and enjoy collaborating. Some of our work is fairly simple, but we thrive on troubleshooting and building more challenging builds as they come. We’re a film studio that has all types of people and talent walking through our doors and require a professional and welcoming demeanor for game developers, talent, and our teammates.
