Perform responsibilities of Patient Services Representative by greeting patients in a friendly, courteous and professional manner, obtaining proper information, which includes responsibilities for determining proper coding for visits and collecting money from patients.

Contributes to and supports the corporation’s quality initiatives by planning, communicating, and encouraging team and individual contributions toward the corporation’s quality improvement efforts.
Greet patients and visitors in a friendly manner, schedule appointments, direct visitors to the person or department they are seeking. Evaluate patient’s possible need for immediate medical assistance and notifies nurse.
Verify if patient is an existing patient, type patient name, social security number or date of birth in the system to pull up existing patient file and verify patient information.
If patient has not been to the clinic before, provide them with all appropriate paperwork to complete and verify information.
Obtain information from patients regarding insurance coverage, scan insurance card and identification. Enter information into EHR.
Verify eligibility of insurance coverage via phone, computer, or records.
Verify acceptance of patients’ insurance plans and, if not covered, collect deposits from patients.
Document patient arrival in electronic health records (EHR) and deliver appropriate paper forms to the nurse station.
Answer phones and attend to patients’ questions and needs as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include cross-training in check- out, appointment confirmations, and PBX responsibilities.
Review superbill for proper completion, ensure appropriate ICD-9 and CPT codes are assigned, enter total charges for the office visit, and enter on day sheet.
Collect payments from the patients or have those complete proper forms for non-payment.
Give patients paperwork such as, receipts, prescriptions, patient instructions per the physician, etc.
Balance shift day sheets with computer reports and cash, and drop day’s receipts into the safe.
End of the day print out the appointment list for the next day and the superbills.
One year prior medical front office experience preferred.
Computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel spreadsheets, use of a mouse for a computer, etc.)
High School graduate or equivalent.
