About the College
The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) consists of five departments (Biology, Geology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy). Each offers Bachelors and Masters Degrees; has close to 3,000 majors and employs about 250 faculty and staff, has an annual operating budget close to $20M and generates $10M annually in grant support; occupies four three story buildings and one four story building; maintains a large inventory of specialized scientific equipment, including electron microscopes, NMR spectrometers, mass spectrometers, DNA sequencers, PCR instruments, and servers; NSF ranks CSUN in the top five out of 550 similar universities for sending students on to PhD programs in science and engineering. Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Information Technology Consultant is responsible for consultative technology support and services for a variety of academic areas and departments including Faculty, Staff and Students in the College of Science and Mathematics. The incumbent consults Faculty, Staff and Students to discuss their technology needs; provides recommendations and suggestions along with research and implementation of effective technical solutions to computing problems; researches the market for the technology needs of the colleges; purchases technically efficient and cost effective products; maintains inventory; assists in developing required internal college/department IT practices and processes (such as use of computing labs, software installation requests, IT equipment purchase etc.); serves as the principal liaison between the College and IT; and is responsible for website maintenance. Responsible for providing technical support for computers, servers, peripherals, research labs, printers, classroom technologies, and checkout equipment; installs, configures, maintains and troubleshoots software, hardware in college's multiplatform (MAC OS X, Windows, LINUX/ UNIX) computing environment; utilizes Symantec ghost, MDT, SCCM, JAMF, Acronis, deploy studio to facilitate deployment and configuration of computer labs; coordinates lab scheduling; manages Active Directory Organizational Units, Users and Objects, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs); applies security patches and updates; helps the faculty/staff/students with software installations and support; provides support services for ssh, VSFTPD, SMB, NFS, APACHE; and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree (BS) in Computer Science & Engineering. Certification training and applied experience may be substituted for the required education, on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent to six months of full-time computing experience which includes knowledge of relevant hardware, software, maintenance, and user support.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
General working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems; installation of various software applications; basic understanding of networks, data communications, and multimedia systems. Functional knowledge of: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, LINUX/ UNIX, Microsoft Windows Active Directory; Microsoft Windows Active Directory server 2003, 2008 & 2012; Organizational Units (OUs); Group Policy Objects (GPOs); standard desktop software ( Microsoft Office, Adobe etc.,); email clients (Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac mail etc.,); browsers; ticketing systems (EBsuite); imaging tool and software ( Symantec Ghost, MDT, SCCM, Acronis and JAMF); and remote desktop management applications; Knowledge in software programming, shell scripting and ability to use essential languages/ programs like HTML, XML, PHP, jQuery, python, Flash, SQL etc., effectively. Some experience with virtual machines and mobile devices; understanding and experience with managing inventory, useful life, and purchasing of equipment. Ability and specialized skills to: apply and assess user needs; identify, analyze and address user problems; analyze problems and propose effective solutions; understand functional and procedural requirements and develop alternative solutions; relate system solutions to departmental management and staff; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; make presentations; conduct meetings; develop and/or provide user training; maintain high standards for customer service and teamwork; prioritize and manage projects; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The salary range for this classification is: $3470 - $6486 per month.
The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3470 - $4179, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
