Job Responsibilities
Implement all aspects of the drinking water, surface water, and wastewater monitoring programs. Perform sampling of public drinking water, surface water, and wastewater systems for compliance with federal and state requirements. Perform inspections of agricultural facilities for compliance with the regulations and permits. Respond to all complaint types including drinking water, wastewater, and rabies investigations. Prepare inspection reports and assemble documentation for enforcement activities of a professional and technical nature. Provide testimony at enforcement conferences, administrative hearings and court hearings; and provide technical assistance to the regulated community and general public on state and federal laws. This position may also be included in participation as a member of the Emergency Response Team.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have excellent organizational and communication skills, be able to make presentations in a group setting, and communicate clearly and concisely in both an oral and written manner; work effectively in a team-oriented environment and independently in a field environment. Encourage positive working relationships with coworkers, industry, and government officials; work in all reasonable weather conditions; access non-traditional work environments; traverse uneven grounds, climb ladders, stoop, lift and carry up to 50 pounds; swim and work comfortably in a boat on open water and in rough weather conditions; walk on narrow cat walks that require a sense of balance; make visual observations of facilities, samples, plans, specifications, reports, etc.; visually differentiate between various shades of color; conduct field tests, using delicate instruments and chemicals, which require steady hands; able to operate manual soil auger to a depth of three to six feet; and wear the required safety equipment as needed, to include but not limited to, safety glasses, lab coats, and nitrile or latex gloves; and maintain a professional personal appearance. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record. This position requires the successful completion of prescribed technical coursework and passing the test relevant to the position before the end of the probationary period or trial period. Occasional overnight travel may be required. This position may require participation as a member of the Emergency Response Team, overseeing environmental clean-up, which requires 24 hour on call and response on a rotating basis.

Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field, or an associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and three years of environmental health or related experience; or high school diploma and five years of environmental health or related experience. Institutions of higher learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. If selected for this position, you will be required to provide an official college transcript providing your educational background and degree status. Knowledge of wastewater, stormwater, and drinking water rules and regulations. Experience in drinking water, wastewater and surface water monitoring methods and standard operating procedures. Data management skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
