SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Compiles and maintains records of hospital patients treated for cancer to provide data for physicians and research studies, utilizing tumor registry data system.
Reviews hospital records to identify and compile patient data for use in cancer management program and to comply with government regulations.
Reviews patient's medical record, abstracts, and codes information (i.e. demographics, history/extent of disease, diagnostic procedures/treatment) into software system.
Contacts discharged patients, their families, and physicians to maintain registry with follow-up information, such as quality of life and length of survival of cancer patients.
Prepares statistical reports, narrative reports and graphic presentations of tumor registry data for use by hospital staff.
Attends Cancer Committee and Tumor Board Meetings; takes minutes for these committee meetings for submission hospital oversight committees.
Submits Cancer Registry Data to the Commission on Cancer and Texas Cancer Registry on a timely basis; making sure data is accurate prior to submission.
Validates data within medical record and within Cancer Registry Vendor on a quarterly basis.
Stays up to date with all reporting to Registries including concurrent data reporting requirements.
Attends Commission on Cancer Surveys and all regulatory meetings which include Cancer Registry or Data Analysis.
Uses organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
Maintains and protects all confidential information for HIPAA compliance, and in accordance with IS Security and Confidentiality Agreement.
Capable to work autonomously using accuracy in performing data abstraction and record reviews; uses organizational skills, able to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
Must be committed to quality and the achievement of excellence; works autonomously within the department and if assigned offsite projects or remote reviews.
Must be able to comprehend and use various hospital computer software and other data base programs; displays knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
Displays open communication and works closely with Director of Quality Measures/ Registries and hospital staff.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Director Quality Measures /Registries
Associates Degree in Health Care or higher, Or a certificate in Cancer Information Management
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential
Recent experience functioning as a CTR.
OSHA TASK CATEGORY THREE: There is no anticipated risk of exposure to mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashed during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing a task that is likely to cause exposure.
