The incumbent serves as an IT Specialist (INFOSEC) and has a mastery of and skill in information security hardware/software. In this role the incumbent is required to access national security information and attend classified meetings and briefings with other United States Government agencies.
"As an IT Specialist (INFOSEC) you will: Serve as an advisor to the Chief Information Security Officer on all matters relating to security vulnerabilities and threats to computer systems. Develop corresponding security countermeasures necessary to protect technical, complex, sensitive and classified information processed on computer equipment. Provide technical support and assist in preparing and implementing policy guidance. Evaluate and or develop new or revised information security policy, standards, and procedural guidance and support for the protection of information technology systems. Work closely with program and project activities to develop safeguards for the computers that are connected to networks. Review and analyze technical aspects of proposals and integrity studies. Keep abreast of the latest developments and initiatives in the computer security arena. Perform technical/complex vulnerability testing and network assessments for staff/customers to counter unauthorized attempts to enter systems within the CDC enterprise. Perform work in the development, testing, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of emerging technology to accomplish the work of the agency. Analyze and research computers, related equipment (hardware), and infrastructure support architecture for security compliance." ]

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraphs. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position. GS-12: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which include experience implementing and modifying information technology security systems including hardware, software, systems and/or communications; and assisting in preparing and implementing security policy guidance. GS-13: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which include experience developing security corresponding countermeasures necessary to protect sensitive and classified information; and developing new or revised information security policies, standards, and procedural guidance and support for the protection of information technology systems. Additional Qualifying experience for the GS-12/13 grade level requires IT-related experience that demonstrated each of the following four competencies: Attention to detail; customer service; oral communications; and problem solving. 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
