The Lead Modeler, Design Studio, reports to the VP, Design Operations & Craftsmanship or the Manager, Clay Design & Fabrication to create, develop, validate & maintain a variety of physical models & execute tasks relative to the Design Modeling Studio.
** This position will work in our Design Studio located in our Corporate offices in Irvine, California. **
Develop and fabricate models and physical properties, using a range of materials and fabrication methods, by working directly with Studio Designers, Surface Designers and Engineers to ensure high aesthetic quality and engineering/manufacturing feasibility. Physical properties and models include, but are not limited to; full and small scale exterior and interior clay and hard models, evaluation properties and seating bucks, table-top models, full clips/assembles and individual prototype parts.
Support Design Reviews as needed to ensure aesthetic and engineering requirements are met.
Assist with the coordination and execution of scanning and milling activities.
Assist with project development, coordination and execution.
Assist with the development, maintenance and presentation of the Design Modeling Studio, incl. the calibration and maintenance of surface plates, machinery, tools and instruments.
Continuously contribute perspectives and ideas ensuring Karma Automotive remains a leader in the world of aesthetic design.
Coordinate (incl. time management) and utilize experience to develop and mentor team members.
Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for assignment execution and quality of work and be able to identify problems, recommend solutions and resolve issues.
Must be able to communicate efficiently and effectively with internal and external departments and work equally well within a team or individually as required.
Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in design studio clay and metal fabrication, with 7 years in automotive exterior and/or interior environments.
Bachelor Degree in Art, Design or Engineering preferred but not required with equivalent extensive experience.
