The Department of World Languages & Cultures seeks to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor of French for the academic year 2020-2021. The successful candidate will demonstrate support for diversity, equity and inclusiveness as well as participate in maintaining a respectful, positive work environment. Applicants must possess native or near native fluency in French and be prepared to use language as a medium for teaching francophone culture to a general education audience and to teach more advanced classes that will appeal to students in a wide variety of disciplines. Candidates with expertise in areas of Francophone Studies other than literature are also encouraged to apply. The French program is vital for Wittenberg's distinctive program in Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum; the successful candidate will demonstrate an interest in applying culture and language study to a variety of disciplines and be willing to work with colleagues in other departments. Wittenberg's French curriculum and French minor require innovative and energetic engagement. The position also includes advising duties for students pursuing a minor in French. The position is open for renewal subject to enrollment demand.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. by August 1 of 2020. The area of specialization is open, but we seek a generalist capable of teaching beginning through advanced classes in a liberal arts environment.
