Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is a world leader in the design of AR and VR systems. We are currently seeking innovative researchers with a strong interest in technology, to push the state-of-the-art for AR and VR audio in our research location in Redmond, WA. This role is focused on developing advanced algorithms and signal processing techniques to solve complex, unsolved problems in the area of acoustics, spatial audio, and signal processing with applications in VR and AR. The position is for a full-time research scientist and requires a PhD in applied mathematics, audio engineering and signal processing, acoustics, electrical engineering, computer science or similar, and a strong background in solving hard problems in audio.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop novel algorithms and signal processing techniques to solve complex acoustic research problems in the field of spatial audio, sound field reconstruction, and sound field representation
Develop next-generation VR and AR audio technology
Collaborate with the larger FRL team and provide creative leadership on cross-team technologies
Mentor MS/PhD interns and collaborate with external academic groups to advance our research goals
Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in the field of Applied Mathematics, Audio Engineering and Signal Processing, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields
5+ years experience with working on algorithm development, and signal processing techniques for acoustics
Demonstrated experience constructing audio-specific proof-of-concept systems performance evaluations
5+ years experience in programming in C++ or MATLAB
Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored conference publications or journal articles at Acoustical Society of America (ASA), Audio Engineering Society (AES), International conference of auditory displays (ICAD), Journal of Acoustical Society of America (JASA), Frontiers in Neuroscience, Applied Acoustics or Acta Acoustica United with Acustica
