MAJOR PURPOSES

Responsible for supporting MLB's legal and policy efforts related to sports betting, conducting confidential and highly sensitive investigations related to baseball personnel, and assisting with other legal and compliance matters as needed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support MLB's legal and policy efforts related to sports betting
  • Represent MLB's interests in the legislative and rulemaking processes at the state and federal level
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations related to sports betting
  • Develop and maintain relationships with government regulators, betting operators, and other stakeholders to assist in integrity-related efforts
  • Oversee efforts to monitor and identify suspicious betting activity
  • Review and enhance MLB's internal policies and training programs
  • Investigate allegations related to sports betting, performance-enhancing substances, domestic violence, off-field misconduct, and other violations of baseball rules and policies
  • Conduct witness interviews throughout the United States and internationally
  • Write detailed investigative reports, interview summaries, and referrals related to significant investigations
  • Liaise with law enforcement entities and anti-doping organizations on ongoing investigations
  • Work with MLB analysts to gather and analyze publicly available information
  • Provide legal support for MLB's compliance and security efforts as needed
  • Testify in internal and external hearings in support of MLB
  • Perform related duties as required
REQUIREMENTS

  • J.D. and a minimum of 3 years' legal experience required
  • Strong oral and written communication (including editing) skills
  • Professional demeanor, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage deliverables with time-sensitive deadlines
  • This position is based in New York City but will require significant travel.
  • Prosecutorial experience is preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
