The NBME is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides high-quality examinations for the health professions. Protection of the health of the public through state-of-the-art assessment of health professionals is the mission of the NBME, along with a major commitment to research and development in evaluation and measurement. The NBME was founded in 1915 because of the need for a voluntary, nationwide examination that medical licensing authorities could accept as the standard by which to judge candidates for medical licensure. Since that time, it has continued without interruption to provide high-quality examinations for this purpose and has become a model and a resource of international stature in testing methodologies and evaluation in medicine. Although the NBME's mission is centered on assessment of physicians, it encompasses the spectrum of health professionals along the continuum of education, training, and practice and includes research in evaluation as well as development of assessment instruments.
The NBME has nearly 500 employees and is located in Philadelphia's University City neighborhood, home to some of the country's most esteemed universities, nonprofit research institutes, and research and teaching hospitals.
Working within in the platforms team, this position provides support and administration of networks and security furnished by the infrastructure service delivery group. This is a hands on engineering role chiefly centered around switches, routers and wireless access points. Additional responsibilities include working with firewalls, load balancers, logging tools and diagraming tools. This position also requires a thorough understanding of infrastructure technologies (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, IPSec, Remote Access Solutions, Enterprise Monitoring) design principles and best practices
Provide service and technology support to all users accessing network services within infrastructure technologies. Respond and take immediate action to security alerts and all incidents on enterprise wide technology systems.
Ensure high availability of enterprise systems and platforms that support production environments. Provide the management team with recommendations on ways to continuously improve the availability and efficiency of the communications infrastructure.
Design and integrate secure and scalable solutions into the organization's infrastructure based on developing business requirements. Ensure that projects designed in group meet our required security criteria according to the Board policies.
Enforce and own patch and vulnerability management Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the network infrastructure. Lead the process for network infrastructure technologies. Recommend procedures ensuring upgrades, patches and applications are installed into the infrastructure correctly, securely and on time.
Keep systems documentation accurate and up to date. Generate end user instructional documentation for newly delivered services.
Keep abreast of the current technologies. Make recommends for changes to the network infrastructure that enhance service and help meet business objectives while maintaining adequate security.
Consistently ensure the integrity and reliability of the infrastructure technologies. Continue to establish base line operating conditions for enterprise technologies. Regularly inspect monitoring and reporting tools and logs for malfunctioning equipment, abnormal traffic patterns and other anomalies.
Ensure that all new systems and services put in production throughout the organization conform to the standards developed in IT and conform to the security policies and enforced by the senior management team. Retrofit any systems or services that don't conform to the current standards of operation.
Carry out all phases of project from business case development, requires gathering, design planning, vendor selection, equipment testing, implementation and documentation. Pay particular attention to security details and how they relate to vendor selection and implementation. Ensure all critical configurations and logs are backed up and stored off site.
Create and maintain accurate and up to date project plans, architecture drawings and service documentation.
Plan and deploy reliable, secure, scalable, high availability systems. Ensure consistent standards and configuration issues related to installations and administration of systems including upgrades, patches, fixes, etc.
Skills and Abilities
Skilled in a broad range of network technologies such as LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, routing protocols (BGP) , Remote Access Solutions, Enterprise Monitoring, Strong design skills and working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, Kerberos, Active Directory.
Ability to analyze wide range of complex enterprise wide issues in providing end to end services. Broad understanding across all Infrastructure technologies being utilized with NBME including cloud based providers (Azure and AWS).
ITIL experience is a plus. Knowledge of Incident, Change, Problem and Service management frameworks is a must to be able to provide end to end service delivery required in the NBME environments.
Excellent communication and technical skills. Professional developments such as interpersonal skills and technical skills are a must.
Training and experience in appropriate technology (Cisco, Checkpoint, F5, Splunk, NetBrain) are crucial in delivering quality services using technologies by these vendors.
Minimum 8 years applicable experience. CCIE Certification preferred
