We are seeking a People Partner (a.k.a HR Generalist) with lived immigrant or refugee exerieince to help support the work we do. This position is onsite with flexibility for remote work.
Department Function:
The People & Culture department is charged with strategic planning activities, compliance, organization policy, general administration, compensation, benefits, human resource administration, culture, professional development, performance management, diversity, equity, and inclusion, employee engagement, and employee recognition.
Job Function:
The People Partner/HR Generalist reports to the Director of People & Culture but works closely with People & Culture Manager, members of the leadership team, and the Board Human Resources committee.
The People Partner will assist with the daily functions of the People & Culture department including recruitment of staff, employee relations and culture, company communications, compensation, benefits, leave management, and enforcing company policies and practices.
Responsibilities:
- Handle all HR administrative tasks, including data entry in human resources information systems (HRIS) for agency, programs, and audits for accuracy and compliance.
- Work collaboratively with People & Culture Manager to maintain and implement a standardized and collaborative recruitment procedure.
- Create and post job openings internally and externally as needed.
- · Conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications as needed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for hiring managers and newly hired employees, completing 30/60/90-day check ins with all new hires.
- Enhance HR processes to increase employee satisfaction & retention.
- Work with People & Culture Manager to identify innovative and creative new ways to onboard new employees for a more scalable and measurable onboarding experience.
- Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations as needed.
- Administer compensation and benefits plans as requested.
- Process unemployment and workers compensation claims.
- Manage FMLA paperwork and communication with employees on leave.
- Create and distribute internal communications regarding status changes, benefits, or company policies and procedures.
- Maintain all personnel files and records, notifications of needed performance evaluations and documentation for each current and former employee.
- Manage compliance for employee qualifications for employment and monitor and manage the specific documentation that is necessary for personnel record keeping that meets requirements for the various funding agencies and of the programs.
- Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory training, and continuing education, this includes safety training, federally mandated trainings, as well as payroll and benefits, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications.
- Prepare reports, as requested, for all personnel related issues, for example, census data for benefit renewal, data for the Department of Labor, turnover & retention, varies funder reports CPS, ISBE, DCFS IDHS, DFSS, etc.
- Maintains compliance with funder, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices.
- Review policies and practices to maintain compliance and best practices.
- Provide oversight, process charges and maintain compliance for unemployment, EEOC, OFCCP, DOL, ADA, FMLA, EPRC, IDPH, etc.
- Review, develop, and revise HR policies and procedures as necessary including Employee Handbook.
- Assist with resolving employee issues and concerns related to payroll, benefits, and personnel as necessary.
- Review and maintain employee payroll and PTO records.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Be the backup for payroll processing, onboarding of new hires, and benefit reconciliation, inquiries, and support.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Skills, knowledge, & abilities):
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, related field, or equivalent experience required.
- At least three years of human resource experience in a non-profit setting preferred.
- Proven hands-on experience using an HRIS system for recruiting and onboarding, preferably ADP Workforcenow.
- Experience working with ADP Workforcenow platform.
- Ability and interest in learning new technical systems

- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to lift 20lbs and under, ability to sit, stand, walk distance and up and down stairs, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms
