Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc., one of the largest metals distributors in the US, is currently seeking a Network Architect to join our IT team in Lisle, IL. Reporting to the Sr. Network Services Manager, you will use your knowledge of networking hardware and software tools to architect, design, and implement technical solutions to meet corporate initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify solutions
  • Evaluating existing network systems and planning long-term strategies to ensure network capacity meets current and future network requirement
  • Conducting feasibility studies on strategic and tactical plans
  • Performing complex technical analysis of software, hardware, and network systems, systems engineering for front-end processors, multiplexors, LAN/WAN communications, network nodes, switches, and various transmission systems
  • Provide technical expertise in the management of a public and/or private network; tests and analyzes network facilities, including network control software, routers, switches, lines, modems, adapters and servers
  • Install, support and/or maintains LANs and/or WANs; evaluate and recommend networking product and software upgrades
  • Perform technical analyses of software, hardware and transmission facilities using various diagnostic tools in support of efficient network operations
  • Monitor data traffic and controls network resource performance to ensure high-quality transmission
  • Identify, diagnose and resolve technical problems related to network failure/integrity and usage of PC hardware and software
  • Configuration support and maintaining of Cisco ISR routers , Cisco Ethernet switches, Cisco ISE, Prime Cisco access points and APC’s
  • Installation and management of networking hardware at new or relocated sites
  • Documentation of installed hardware within a central database
  • Trouble resolution with telecom carriers online and internal ticketing systems
  • Rotational support with other team members
  • Working with voice group, LAN, PC Tech to support VoIP phone system installs and troubleshooting
  • Working with Solarwinds network monitoring software, SecureCRT and Kiwi cat tools
Position Requirements:
  • 5-7 yrs. working in a Cisco environment routing and switching familiar with networking concepts, infrastructure, and technologies
  • Familiar with wireless security, ISE, WLC WPA-2 enterprise 802.1x, L3 switching, VPN access
  • Possess the ability to work independently research and strong problem-solving skills
  • Cisco routing protocols BGP, VRF, AAA, IP and subnets VLANS, IPSEC, VLSM, DMVPN Tunneling, traffic monitoring using Solarwinds
  • Exposure to Meraki and Cisco DNA SDWAN also a plus
ACL, QOS, COS, Sniffer a plus CRT scripting, troubleshooting experience. NBAR protocol and firewall experience
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are also critical for identifying, troubleshooting and solving problems.
