Crime Stoppers of Michigan is a non-profit organization that empowers people to make their neighborhoods, schools, churches and businesses safer through anonymous reporting of crime. We provide a voice for crime victims by helping families with the help of our media partners, to publicize unsolved crimes and wanted fugitive cases to the public via television, radio, print and online media, We proudly partner with FOX 2, Channel 7, Channel 4, WWJ Newsradio, Mlive, The Monroe Evening News, The Macomb Daily, The Oakland Press, and others.

REPORTS TO: Digital Media Specialist

LENGTH: 3-6 Months, Part-Time (6 to 12 Hours/week); Unpaid

PURPOSE OF POSITION: We are looking for a Social Media Intern to join our team. The ideal applicant will possess strong knowledge of the digital media landscape, including various social media sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to website redesign projects, monitoring and posting on blogs and social networks, engaging in online forums, participating in online outreach and promotion. This internship could be used for classroom credit as determined by your college or university internship guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the on-site Digital Media Specialist to create, implement, and maintain campaigns
  • Develop content calendars and schedule postings on a weekly and monthly basis for our organization
  • Monitor analytics to identify viable ideas
  • Create and publish an engaging blog and social media content
  • Assist in the general distribution of press releases and media alerts
  • Provide support to our marketing team at live and online events
  • Contribute to website redesign projects
  • Pulling images for social media posts, editing images with channel branding
  • Monitor the activities of high ranking Crime Stopper’s social media pages
  • Assist Digital Media Specialist with day to day tasks.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be in pursuit of a degree in communications, marketing, media arts, digital media or equivalent experience
  • Experience in social media/marketing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Passion and focus on social media for marketing
  • In-depth working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and Google+
  • Experience with social media analytics, including Google Analytics and Facebook Insights
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop
