Senior Systems Administrator

Hiway Federal CU - Saint Paul, MN

Full-time | Temporary

Serves as a primary technical resource and/or project coordinator for various infrastructure implementation, integration, and/or administration efforts, including PCs/notebooks, servers, routers, switches, storage, and telephony systems.


1. Completes analysis, design, configuration, maintenance, support, review and/or implementation of technical systems at Hiway Federal Credit Union

a) Responsible for the sizing, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure systems, including collaborative/information sharing platforms, security systems, database storage, backup devices and other systems as determined

b) Provides technical design and functional specifications for business application platforms, identifies user needs, analyzes options and alternatives, and evaluates functionality and integrity of supporting infrastructure

c) Evaluates hardware and infrastructure-based systems, and provides recommendations

d) Ensures infrastructure projects are planned, programmed, tested, and implemented by project deadlines

e) Researches and tracks technical trends and products in applicable network and PC/server technologies

f) Serves as a primary or secondary contact for PCs, servers, and network infrastructure, phone system questions, changes, and issues as well as user account management and administration

g) Works to ensure internal and external systems and network security

2. Responsible for analysis, design, configuration, maintenance, support, review and/or implementation of telecommunications and network technologies

a) Completes the design, implementation, administration and maintenance of VOIP applications and communication systems

b) Provides technical design and functional specifications for network devices, identifies business needs, analyzes options and alternatives, and evaluates functionality and usability of equipment

c) Ensures network projects are planned, configured, tested, and implemented by project deadlines

d) Researches and tracks technical trends and products in telecommunication and network technologies and platforms

e) Serves as the primary contact for all network questions, changes, and issues as well as security management and device administration

f) Works to ensure internal and external systems and user security

g) Works with Systems Analysts, Technology Specialists and/or other IT staff as required to design, configure and implement technical systems

3. Serves as a project manager for various technology projects

a) Develops and implements project plans

b) Builds project teams, leads project team meetings, ensures project deliverables are documented and objectives met

c) Updates project status, task lists, and related documentation as required

d) Provides regular updates to IT and Hiway management on project status

4. Serves as the team leader in the Infrastructure Team

a) Demonstrates leadership/mentoring qualities to motivate, coach, and train others

b) Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship with credit union management

c) Assists in effectively coordinating schedules and distributing work load among the technical staff

d) Participates in general IT management activities including long-range planning, project planning

e) Provides information to IT Management to facilitate performance reviews

f) Provides technical guidance to others in the Infrastructure group

5. Provides technical support, guidance and assistance to all Hiway staff

a) Serves as primary or secondary help desk specialist, providing prompt, timely and effective technical support as needed to IT staff and end-users on various systems and applications

b) Provide technology guidance and assistance to IT staff and management as needed

c) Develops documentation as needed for help desk staff, other IT staff, or users

  • Assumes all duties as assigned by management

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or related field or Technical Degree; and 5+ years experience in desktop, server, and network support, application implementation, application development, systems administration, business systems analysis and system training in a corporate environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Some experience in direct or indirect team or group leadership – project management, work team supervision, etc.
  • Microsoft Certification or equivalent practical job experience required
  • Advanced skill level for Microsoft Windows server/desktop operating systems and Microsoft Office is required
  • Experience with Office365, Azure, VMWare, VOIP, and Cisco network devices is a plus
  • Direct administration and/or implementation experience with the following technologies:
Windows desktop and server, active directory, group policy, PowerShell

Network management software and systems

IP Telephony/VOIP

SMTP/Internet Mail

Microsoft Visio (for network documentation)

Microsoft SQL Server Administration

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong Analytical and Business Analysis skills
  • Well organized, efficient, detail-oriented and able to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Must possess exceptional organizational, leadership, and project management skills, with proven capability in leading network and infrastructure projects and workgroups
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to accommodate the changing needs of the credit union. Regular attendance is required for this position
