The Manager is responsible for reviewing the overall accounting practices of the firm, trouble shooting accounting issues as they arise and preparing tax filings for clients to ensure accounting projects are completed on schedule, within scope/budget and within the firm’s quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Audit Services:
- Reviews new client books and provides starting balances; identifies discrepancies between Federal Elections Commission report balance and book balance
- Provides audit services to new and existing clients using AICPA audit standards
- Develops the scope of each project; accurately plans projects tasks and timelines to meet the due dates for all deliverables on multiple projects at the same time
- Displays strong project management skills to consistently ensure engagements are completed within scope and budget
Tax Preparation and Consulting:
- Prepare for-profit and non-profit tax returns
- Consult internally with client teams on payroll tax, sales tax and other issues relating to the nexus of tax law and compliance
Client Communication:
- Proactively manages project updates, keeping the client and team up-to-date on project status and any potential issues
- Effectively communicates complex accounting issues with clients and consistently makes the best decisions on behalf of clients
Team/Practice Leadership:
- Provides feedback to team members
- Develops the skills of their team members by delegating challenging assignments for each individual
- Actively involved with leadership roles in the community/ industry and participates in firm marketing activities
- Designs and delivers periodic staff training on accounting and tax standards
Required and Recommended Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or comparable experience
- Minimum 5 years accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Enrolled Agent current with the IRS or having completed all requirements to be a licensed CPA
- Minimum two years experience as a tax preparer
- Management/team leadership experience
- Strong ability to think critically and problem solve
- Proven track record of maintaining continuing education and staying current with regulatory changes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills
- Audit support experience
- Experience preparing nonprofit tax returns such as Form 990, Form 1120-POL, and related filings
