Overview:
The Controller fills a unique role at Public Media Company (PMC) by providing Virtual Accounting Services to other public media organizations and overseeing the financial accounting for PMC. The Controller has direct reports and coordinates monthly closes, reporting, audits and other activities for PMC’s clients.
Main Duties include:
- Supervise/review/close client books and PMC’s books – monthly, quarterly, and annually
- Review/create timely financial statements, variance analysis, forecast and narratives for clients, and designated committees or boards
- Oversee timely submission of payrolls, bill payments, transfer of funds
- Cash management
- Creating annual budgets
- Supervising Accounting Manager, Sr. Accountants and Accounting Assistant
- Assist with agreements for clients
The Controller may have clients where they are required to:
- Complete Bank Statement and payroll reconciliations
- Complete Monthly reconciliation for balance sheet accounts
- Assist with obtaining personnel and business insurance
- Assist with board meeting materials
- Oversee Charitable registration and compliance reporting
- Coordinate year-end audit and 990 filings
- Review annual 1099 forms and 1096 report
Technical Requirements:
- Office 365 and Microsoft Products (Excel, Word, PPT)
- QuickBooks Online
Work Experience:
- Public broadcasting experience
- 4-5 years in public accounting or in a similar role
- Supervisory experience
- Non-profit experience
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree – Accounting or Finance

Pay and Benefits:
- Salary Ranges: $82,000 to $90,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
- In addition to your salary our full benefits package includes health, dental/vision reimbursement, life and disability coverage, 403(b) contributions, vacation, sick, and holiday time off, and a stipend for phone, internet, and home office reimbursement.
- Public Media Company is headquartered in Boulder, CO with employees in multiple locations.
- This is a remote position with the option for hybrid if located near Boulder.
