Based within the British Consulate in Manhattan’s Midtown East this is a hybrid role working 2 days as mandatory within the office.
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior PR & Communications Director to lead our USA-based PR team, headquartered in New York. This role is pivotal in enhancing Britain’s profile as a must-visit destination for American travelers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in destination PR or travel and tourism/hospitality, combined with exceptional team management skills, including remote team oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic PR and communications plans to promote Britain as a leading vacation destination in the USA.
- Lead and manage a team of PR professionals, ensuring effective collaboration and productivity, including managing remote team members.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key media contacts, influencers, and stakeholders within the travel and tourism industry.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of compelling press releases, media presentations, and other PR materials.
- Coordinate and manage media events, press trips, and other promotional activities to showcase Britain’s diverse travel offerings.
- Collaborate with the integrated marketing team to align PR efforts with broader marketing strategies and campaigns.
- Monitor and analyze PR performance metrics, providing regular reports and insights to senior management.
Requirements:
- Experience: Proven experience in PR and communications within the destination PR, travel and tourism, or hospitality sector.
- Destination Knowledge: Strong understanding of Britain as a vacation destination, with the ability to effectively communicate its unique attractions and experiences.
- Team Leadership: Demonstrated success in team management, including experience managing remote teams.
- Media Relations: Excellent media relations skills, with an established network of media contacts in the USA. Experience in managing media deskside tours.
- Integrated Marketing: Experience in integrated marketing and a solid understanding of how PR fits within broader marketing strategies.
- Communication:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for corporate and destination content, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and presentations.
- Experience in corporate and crisis communications
- A confident public speaker with the ability to deliver presentations
- Events: Experience in event delivery
- Multi-task: Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Finance: Strong financial awareness and understanding of the need for Government compliance
