DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The work involves providing systems support including the maintenance and upgrades to hardware, software and networks for the Information Technology Department at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The incumbent assists in coordinating systems tasks, including project management, creates end user reports for the communication of information and provides systems training to employees. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher level technical or administrative employee. Supervision is exercised over lower level technical staff. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Coordinates the evaluation, implementation and maintenance of server software and hardware;
Coordinates the design, implementation and maintenance of the network interface, ensuring adequate planning and timely system implementation;
Provides technical hardware and software support;
Installs new software releases, system upgrades and resolves software related problems;
Performs system backup functions and recovery;
Provides timely response to user needs to include managing user accounts, troubleshooting applications and programming new report templates;
Performs regularly scheduled routine preventative maintenance and problem resolution on, and installation of, computer equipment such as terminals, printers, personal computers and other related peripherals and/or hardware;
Troubleshoots application problems to minimize error potential and streamline workflow;
Manages databases and generates statistical reports;
Consults with users to determine and plan for long-term system needs;
Designs and implements paperless documentation;
Conducts training on systems and various computer related topics.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Thorough knowledge of server operating systems, server software, standard computer hardware and information technology security; thorough knowledge of information systems, principles and methods of application; good knowledge of desktop management including computer imaging, application distribution and desktop security policies; good knowledge of storage area networks and associated technologies, protocols and topologies; good knowledge of file backup and archival systems; good knowledge of computer networks; good knowledge of basic repair and maintenance of computer equipment; good knowledge of file structure, design, access methods and control and information retrieval techniques; good knowledge of the principles and practices of software installation and configuration; ability to establish and maintain effectively working relationships; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and six (6) years of experience in systems administration, one (1) year of which included supervisory experience; or:
B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associates' Degree and eight (8) years of experience in systems administration, one (1) year of which included supervisory experience; or:
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
