Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced candidates within our Steel America Division.
We are pleased to accept resumes for our Estimating Manager position to aid our customers that include Navy, MSC, MARAD, US Army, NOAA, and commercial owners and operators.
This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.
The Estimating Manager is a crucial position within our Steel America division as this role will lead the effort to estimate fabrication new construction and machining RFQs by preparing cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation for the project. Estimates will range from $1K to $15mil in value and multiple estimates will have to be worked concurrently.
This includes using complete and concise labor hour and material dollar estimates that meets the requirements of the specification, drawing or work scope, all while collaborating with the planners, material and subcontractor groups to obtain the most competitive pricing for submittal while meeting bid deadline goals.
The Estimating Manager will report to the Director of Steel America Operations, and partner with the Corporate Director of Estimating and Proposals, but will have frequent contact with VPs, Trade Supervisors, and President/CEO.
As the leader of the estimating group for Steel America, the Manager will be responsible for identifying any potential problems in the bid or proposal and recommending solutions and implementing corrective action.
Work with accounting, production and estimating personnel to develop meaningful metrics and reports to verify their estimates and update the data used for metrics in estimates.
Multiple estimates and proposals will be required to be developed during a specific time frame.
Estimator will be responsible to develop a "lessons learned" file to document problems encountered, solutions implemented (whether they worked or not), and an estimate vice cost return analysis, which will include an explanation of any differences greater or less than 20%.
They will develop detailed labor hour by trade and material estimates to support a proposed bid price.
College degree in a technical or managerial discipline
Able to understand bottom lines, profit levels, and handle technical proposals in detail.
Able to identify all the trades required to accomplish the work and develop a detail by trade of the hours required to accomplish the work.
Must be able to read and interpret specifications, understand and read drawings and blue prints and understand the contract requirements and schedule constraints.
Familiarity with Cost and Schedule Performance metrics including ACWP, BCWP and BCWS concepts and the Cost Performance Index and the Schedule Performance Index.
Working knowledge of Excel, Project (and/or Primavera), PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word. Must be proficient in the use of Excel to develop detailed labor hour estimates.
Proven excellent written and communications skills
Willingness to be flexible and work with people to achieve goals and objectives
