POSITION SUMMARY

Assists licensed staff in the provision of basic nursing care in the Emergency Department, utilizing established policies and procedures, ensuring safe and effective care. Emergency Care is provided based on ages of the population served; Neonate, birth to 1 month - through geriatric - 65 years or older. Demonstrates the skills necessary to meet the needs of all patients served in the Emergency Department through support of the nursing process; collects patient care data, reports findings, assists team to meet patient care goals. The scope of care provided in the Emergency Department involves the care of patients with various health problems with varied levels of complexity. BHS is an EMS Base Station Hospital.

The Emergency Department Technician is under the supervision of the licensed staff of the Emergency Department and reports to the Emergency Department Nurse Manager or designee.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent education/experience
Certifications/Licensures

CA EMT required; paramedic certification preferred.
Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date
Minimum Experience

Experience required in vital signs, bed making and patient transfer techniques required
Sufficient computer skills as are required to complete an online application and the pre-employment/annual Net Learning requirements
In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English; Bilingual abilities preferred
Physical Demands

Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking/sitting
Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfer patients
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
Exposure to stressful environments that may include communicating with difficult individuals in emotional situations
Contact with patients and guests under a wide variety of circumstances
Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases
Exposure to infections and contagious diseases
Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, including the handling of emergency or crisis situations
Subject to pressure due to irregular hours, frequent interruptions and stressful situations due to multiple demands
