Operates as an Aviation Safety Assistant (ASA) in a Flight Standards field office. Provides administrative and semi-technical related support to the supervisor, or manager, Aviation Safety Inspectors, and Administrative Officer by utilizing advanced automation system tools relevant in the Safety Assurance System environment which includes, but is not limited to obtaining background data, preparing reports, reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining technical and administrative files.
Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis. The travel may be for training or other work-related duties.
Conditions of Employment
US Citizenship is required.
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
Must submit an SF50 (See Required Documents)
A recent SF-50 is required (See Required Documents for requirements)
Must type 40 wpm based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
To qualify at the FG-07 level, you must demonstrate in your application that you have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-D, GS/FG-06 level in the Federal Service. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Examples of specialized experience are:
1. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and assures correction, if required.
2. Assists in interpreting and implementing newly modified agency directives and determines necessary action and notification to assure staff is aware of latest changes.
3. Researches, writes, and types non-technical and routine technical correspondence and reports.
4. Coordinates unit's schedule and instructs personnel on proper administrative procedures.
5. Receives and directs incoming telephone calls and interacts with public and other offices.
Applicants must self-certify on the application that they currently type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute typing sample with three for fewer errors.
