Solution Architect Position Description—Kansas City Marketplace
Purpose: The primary role of the Solution Architect is to design information technology solutions which support business needs. The Solution Architect acts as a liaison between sales professionals and internal technology teams in planning, designing, and architecting IT solutions to meet customers’ requirements.
Sumnerone is a regional dealership network offering Managed IT and Managed print solutions in marketplaces in St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia/Jefferson City, Springfield (MO), Bentonville (AR), Joplin (MO), Wichita (KS), and Tulsa (OK). The Solutions Architect will contribute to building the growing Managed IT line of business.
Assess customer needs to identify IT solutions which support business needs. This is a client-facing position which relies upon problem-solving, analytical, and communications skills in developing relationships with business owners and key stakeholders.
Provide high-level architectural design work to support a range of IT solutions, including SMART IT (managed infrastructure), SMART Backup (managed backup/business continuity); SMART Mail (Office 365 platform); SMART VOIP, and SMART Security (managed security stack).
Ability to create solutions by addressing customer business issues by designing integrated IT solutions and IT managed services. This includes developing a tactical plan to go from the AS IS information technology environment to the TO BE IT infrastructure supporting these business plans.
Enable buy-in by using consultative skills to design and implement IT solutions. Serve as a “trusted advisor” providing analysis, guidance, and design of processes, people, and technology solutions for clients.
Prepare needs assessments, proposed Scope of Work, proposed project plans, and specific proposals to IT managed services solutions, including technical specifications, configurations, and agreements.
Facilitate Quarterly Business Review meetings with clients for assigned managed customers. These reviews should include key decision-makers so that ongoing business needs are met.
Present proposals addressing strategic business development opportunities for IT managed services and IT projects, including network refresh, Office 365 migration projects, IT infrastructure refresh projects, and security assessment and monitoring projects.
Develop and maintain technical expertise in IT solutions such as: IT infrastructure, Server migration, Backup/business continuity; Virtualization; Network performance; Security assessment, and Hosted VOIP and on-premise VOIP.
Use the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software tools for tracking, monitoring, quoting, and managing the solutions sales funnel.
Work collaboratively with sales professionals and systems engineering professionals to bridge the gap between the “qualified lead” and the engineering support process.
Knowledge of the consultative solutions process throughout the solution development life cycle—from assessment, business analysis, solution design, and cost-benefit analysis.
Technical understanding of IT infrastructure and IT design and implementation for solutions: IT managed infrastructure, managed backup/business continuity, managed VOIP, managed Office 365 platform, and managed security.
Strong communications and analytical skills; capable of building trust with business leaders and key stakeholders in the process of designing IT solutions which support business needs.
Ability to develop the Project Scope of Work, project schedule and cost plans, and ability to participate in project status reviews and checkpoints.
Technical knowledge at the Tier 2 level, including IT infrastructure, Network infrastructure, Virtualization, Backup/Business Continuity, and Cloud-based Platforms.

Experience and Education
5 -10 years technical or operations experience.
Bachelors’ degree, preferably in information systems, engineering, computer science, or a technology-related field; or the equivalent in technical education.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communications skills.
Effective relationship-building and collaboration skills.
Industry certifications are of interest (MCSE, ITIL, etc.).
