The Interior Design team has an opening for a Senior Interior Designer in their Workplace Sector.
Location: Minneapolis, MN or Chicago, IL
As a Senior Interior Designer on the Workplace team, you will be responsible for collaborating with team members and design directors in leading the design of interior architectural projects from schematic design through construction administration. You will be the designer on projects ranging in size and complexity. You will develop space plans, three dimensional concepts, visual presentations, materials palettes, and assistance with aspects of construction documentation. This role requires and integrated mindset working collaboratively with clients, contractors, vendors and other DLR Group team members.
In this role you will lead project design efforts, client interactions, and presentations. You will mentor staff, fostering a work environment that emphasizes mutual respect, learning, communication, and collaboration. You will work with Global Sector Leader, Region Leader, and sector-based staff to enable collaborative pursuit, award and execution of work. Additional responsibilities may include, but not be limited to participation in interviews, marketing and business development activities, participation in firm research and development projects, the development of sector tools and marketing materials.
The successful candidate will
Have the ability to work both independently and effectively in a cross-disciplinary team atmosphere and across multiple offices.
Have strong creative design and drawing skills, graphic and oral design presentation skills, strong space planning and three-dimensional, conceptual design thinking, experience in the aesthetic and functional aspects of materials and furnishings selection and specification, and 3D design/modeling ability.
Have strong client communication and time management skills.
Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Have solid understanding of industry standards, construction methods, and technical systems at large.
Have knowledge of the construction administration process.
Have a deep understanding of the research underpinning the Evidence Based Design solutions adding value beyond the traditional FF&E support; and work to generate design support tools.
Recognized industry expert, continually growing expertise and skill sets.
Contribute to the development of Construction Documents and specifications, may provide a QA/QC role.
Set direction and contributes to the development of Furniture packages, may provide a QA/QC role.
12+ years of experience in the commercial interior design/interior architecture industry with a keen understanding of workplace projects, standards and practices.
Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture or equivalent.
Professional NCARB or NCIDQ Credentials
Ability to work both independently and effectively in a cross-disciplinary team atmosphere and across multiple offices.
Outstanding communication, and interpersonal skills and be an enthusiastic team player.
Strong leadership and team building skills.
Strong time management skills.
Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office suite.
Proficiency in 3D modeling.
The ability to travel occasionally to support project tasks.
Ideal candidates will have industry involvement in relevant market sector organizations.
Have a strong interest in sustainable & healthy building design and credentials with LEED, WELL or similar.
