We are looking for a creative, problem-solving Director of Manufacturing Engineering. The successful candidate must be able to 1) lead people/structure and align the Manufacturing Engineering team to meet the needs of the business, 2) drive improvements in cost and quality using standard engineering best practices and CI tools, as well as 3) formulate and implement a roadmap for adopting new technology to improve capability.
The Director of Manufacturing Engineering has responsibility for Sustaining Production Support activities consisting of continuously improving the manufacturing methods and automation to ensure improved product quality, increased production efficiency and capacity while reducing cost. The Director of Manufacturing Engineering also has responsibility for New Product Introduction and will develop and define efficient process flows, apply advanced manufacturing methods to support scale-up of new products on-schedule, while meeting quality, cost and throughput targets.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Drive a Safety and Quality first culture on the Manufacturing Engineering team, and across the Operations organization with your peers on the Operations Leadership Team.
Drive a culture of data-based decision-making; use existing data/develop tools to create actionable information for decision-making.
Ensure the Manufacturing Engineering team is driving improvements in First Pass Yield, Cycle Time and Cost of Poor Quality.
Own and improve programs to ensure Product Quality, such as ESD and FOD.
Develop capability of the Manufacturing Engineering team; grow technical skills, as well as project management and facilitation skills.
Work with product development, program management and operations in a production environment to meet production/ program objectives (First Pass yields / DTUPC targets /Reliability expectations).
Develop and implement an advance manufacturing engineering presence to improve the new product introduction within the Operations environment, including an automation strategy for new products.
Work directly with product development leading the transfer of designs and processes to manufacturing, including driving DFMAT into new product introductions.
Lead the effort to develop strategies that optimize and monitor manufacturing process design, development and QA/validation efforts from early product development through product launch monitor.
Assure compliance of all operating units and partners with state and federal regulatory requirements.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline.
Proven success and results in driving improvements in cost, quality and efficiency in sustaining and NPI environments.
Experience driving DFM into product development.
Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams.
10+ years in a manufacturing environment.
4+ years related experience involving the assembly, testing and repair of opto-mechanical or electronic assemblies.
4+ years implementing Lean Manufacturing principles and/or Six Sigma.
Knowledge in the manufacture of PCB, Optics, Plastics and Castings.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents and engineering drawings.
Experience with a phased-gated approach to development that includes strong project management skills and general knowledge of basic project management tools.
Experience with make vs. buy analysis.
Experience in crafting and evaluating RFPs.
SCOPE AND INFLUENCE
Experience with plastic molding processes
Experience with laser technologies
Certified in Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt)
Knowledge and experience with lean tools such as 5S, FMEA, DOE and continuous work flow (VSM)
Strong knowledge in written product specifications
Project Management: Ability to organize and manage multiple products through manufacturing process

Ability to work with vendors, customers and employees
Ability to maintain safe work environment

Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office, SAP experience a plus)
This person will develop the structure and team to drive improvements on established production lines, as well as work with Program Management, Engineering and Operations to launch products and ramp production to meet aggressive targets for cost and quality.
