POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Annual Giving Manager joins a Development Team responsible for the comprehensive fund development program in support of a $3.4 million annual budget, 97% of which is funded by individual donors, foundations, and corporations.

The Annual Giving Manager will partner with the Director of Development and President to manage and grow De Marillac Academy’s development strategy. The Annual Giving Manager will manage daily development operations while working closely with the Database & Social Media Coordinator, Operations Manager, Grants Consultant, Director of Development and President on donor relations, execution of the Annual Scholarship Benefit and annual fundraising efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Management:

  • Collaborate with appropriate members of the Development Team (and other departments) to identify the goals and strategy of each event
  • Oversee the event planning and execution from start to finish: create event planning timeline, establish responsibilities among the team, run necessary meetings; create and manage the day of timeline for the event

Annual Scholarship Benefit (ASB):

Design and execute the Annual Scholarship Benefit event, which raises approximately 30% of DMA’s annual operation budget, in coordination with the Development Team, volunteers and the entire school community, including the planning, implementation, and evaluation of this annual event. Some specifics include, but are not limited to, the following:

➢ Advise, track and report on fundraising efforts related to ASB

In partnership with the President and Director of Development, participate in the stewardship of Leadership Benefactors, Corporate Sponsors and Foundations who make gifts directly to the event

➢ In collaboration with the Development Team, oversee the execution of theme and design aesthetic through invitations, print and electronic communications, appeals and signage. Manage print and design through external vendors

➢ Budget creation and management

➢ Venue and vendor management

➢ Event contracts negotiation (venue, catering, A/V, etc.)

➢ Work with the Database coordinator to ensure timely and accurate data management through both the auction software and Raiser’s Edge

Other Events:

As required each year, organize and execute other fundraising, stewardship, community building or cultivation events such as Triviaoke, Major Donor Receptions, Open House at De Marillac, etc. and provide additional support to community-wide events as needed.

Appeal Management

  • In collaboration with the Director of Development, set annual giving goals and develop and drive a master plan and calendar for all annual giving activities * Write effective and persuasive direct mail and digital appeals, recommend segmenting and oversee mailing processes * Work with outside vendors on design, printing and mailing
  • Manage timelines for various appeal activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund-raising processes are carried out in a timely manner
  • Support the creation of content for additional written communication and marketing efforts such as newsletters, e-news and website. Donor Relations:
  • Assume responsibility for the cultivation and stewardship of various existing donor relationships, as delegated by the Director of Development
  • Assume responsibility for the cultivation and stewardship of various new donor relationships
  • Ensure the highest quality of donor stewardship and guest experience for all Development-related guests to the De Marillac campus
  • Participate in the Corporate Day of Service experiences as coordinated by the Operations Manager and Assistant Principal

Other Responsibilities

  • Back up support at De Marillac as needed and when these activities do not interfere with Development duties: helping in classrooms, assisting in elective classes, chaperoning field trips, covering non-teaching roles throughout the school when teachers are out. The Annual Giving Manager is encouraged to participate in these activities to ensure a team spirit at De Marillac and such activities often inspire new ideas and projects for the Development team.
  • Deepen formation with the De La Salle Christian Brothers and Daughters of Charity
  • Participate in Professional Development and school activities as requested

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • At least 4 years of experience in the nonprofit development field
  • Demonstrated experience with donor relations and event execution
  • Passionate commitment to alleviating poverty in underserved communities through access to quality education
  • Experience consistently meeting or exceeding fundraising targets

Technical Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with diverse constituencies, including, but not limited to: Board of Trustees, Development Council members, individual donors, foundations, corporate and community partners, colleagues, volunteers and vendors
  • Analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge (or comparable fundraising database)

  • Strong attention to detail; organized and systematic in donor follow-through and stewardship and capable of balancing competing priorities in a small team within a fast-paced environment

De Marillac Academy is an independent Lasallian Vincentian Catholic elementary school, serving grades 4-8, located in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. De Marillac Academy provides a values-based, academically rigorous, tuition-free education to low-income students from all faith and cultural backgrounds. De Marillac Academy opened in 2001 as an independent, Lasallian Vincentian Catholic school with a class of nineteen sixth graders. Today De Marillac serves 115 fourth through eighth grade students, 271 alumni through the Graduate Support Program, and 253 school families through our unique wrap around clinical and family support program. All students attend De Marillac on a full annual scholarship.
