Dispatchers work within the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center receiving and handling 911 emergency calls and non-emergency calls. They follow established policies and procedures and obtain needed information from callers to determine the severity and urgency of the problem. As a 911 Dispatcher you will decide an appropriate response and dispatch the proper emergency personnel. Dispatchers also communicate emergency medical procedures to callers when necessary. Dispatchers enter facts and information into the computer system and perform many additional administrative tasks in a very fast paced environment.

Starting pay is currently $17.25 per hour based on experience. LaGrange County 911 Dispatcher top pay is currently $19.75 per hour.

Minimum Requirements for Employment:

Candidates must be at least 21 years old, be a US Citizen, must possess a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid driver’s license, and not have any felony convictions. Candidates for this position must also expect to undergo a background investigation that meets all local, state and federal requirements, as well as a voice stress examination, psychological test and drug screen.

Another minimum requirement for employment as a 911 Dispatcher includes completion of a comprehensive training program during the first several months of employment. This often includes classroom training and extensive, on-the-job training.
