Department Function: NPT’s Development & Communications Department manages all individual and business development activities of National Philanthropic Trust. The Department is responsible for fundraising for both current and prospective donor-advised funds and Supporting Organizations, cultivating and securing financial service partner relationships, and identifying and developing new revenue opportunities. The Department is the primary interface to our FSP’s financial and professional advisors to ensure resolution of inquiries, requests and technical support that may arise. Additionally, the Department is responsible for the marketing of NPT’s services and coordinating the organization’s public relations.

SUMMARY

The Development Associate is responsible for providing exceptional, high quality and efficient fundraising support to NPT’s regional directors and their respective financial advisors, bankers, attorneys, donors, and others. The Development Associate will work closely with other departments/colleagues at National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) to ensure that NPT meets its fundraising goals and retains the highest levels of satisfaction among our donors and their professional advisors. The successful candidate will employ a consultative, personable and professional approach while representing NPT and its financial service partners with the objective of attracting and retaining donors. NPT is looking for people with a passion for fundraising and stewardship.

Primary Functions and Essential Responsibilities

Relationship Management

  • Promptly and professionally service and respond to inquiries from bankers, financial advisors and other professional advisors and their donors including details on setting up and funding a donor-advised fund, fee schedules, grant status, investments, succession planning and other details
  • Serve as liaison between Corporate office and Directors in the field
  • Track and escalate calls and emails for further handling to regional directors or other NPT subject-matter experts
  • Complete fulfillment requests in a thorough and timely manner
  • Ensure all information gathered on account advisors and prospects is accurately captured in NPT’s recordkeeping, CRM and case management systems
  • Research and resolve financial advisor and/or donor issues, and coordinate response with the appropriate regional director within the identified timeframes
  • Assist regional directors in cultivating and building relationships with professional advisors through timely dissemination of promotional materials, letters, emails, and other items
  • Support extended phone coverage hours during Giving Season (October – December)

Marketing Support

  • Assist Regional Directors in generating proposals, presentations and other marketing and collateral materials
  • Research on prospects, including professional and financial advisors, other Centers of Influence and potential donors
  • Maintain, update and organize key internal marketing and technical documents that assist regional directors in their development efforts
  • Manage Salesforce database and generate fundraising performance, including contributions and new DAF accounts, by branch, city, state and region
  • In coordination with NPT’s finance team, generate and distribute monthly fundraising and new DAF account reports by branch, city, state and region
  • Execute outbound marketing online campaigns
  • Track and report on territory performance, including contributions and new DAF accounts, on a monthly basis
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments in philanthropy in general and competitors in particular

Administrative Support

  • Detailed awareness of regional directors’ schedules to provide additional support during travel, conferences and other external events
  • Coordinate the onboarding of DAF accounts with NPT’s operations and investment teams
  • In coordination with Chief Development Officer, maintain, update and implement work processes to ensure efficiency and best practices are employed
  • Incorporate feedback from promotional advisors and donors into workflow processes
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor degree required
  • Masters degree in related field strongly desirable

Required Experience:

  • At least 2-3 years of fundraising experience
  • Previous experience working in a financial services customer service role, nonprofit or charitable organization preferred, but not required
  • Basic understanding of brokerage process, regulations and rules that govern client accounts is a plus

  • Demonstrated experience handling confidential information, as well as client concerns and issues with tact and diplomacy
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to prioritize work
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and proficiency in MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and ability to learn other programs as required
