Job Title: Shelter Team Leader
Reports to: Director of Social Services
Status: Full-time
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Job Location: Washington Heights, New York City
Objective:
We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to implement best practices, coordinate and oversee the delivery of quality social services leading up to the rapid placement of clients from our women's mental health shelter into permanent housing.
The Team Leader will join and manage a dynamic team of social services staff consisting of Case Managers, a Housing Specialist, Entitlement and Employment Specialist and a Peer Engagement Specialist, who partner to meet the emotional, social and physical needs of shelter residents.
The Team Leader will work closely with the Director of Social Services to ensure coordination of services with operations staff, ensuring all requirements for assessments, evaluations and documentation are being met by their team.
Essential Functions:
Provide weekly supervision to an assigned social services team.
Ensure provision of social services to shelter residents in order to best assist clients in moving rapidly towards housing goals.
Perform assessments of new clients to determine their appropriateness for the setting, identify service needs, and make team assignment to a team as appropriate.
Conduct case reviews in supervision meetings to ensure the coordination of client care.
Ensure Psychosocial Evaluations, Independent Living Plans and other required documentation are completed and filed as per DHS and OTDA standards.
Ensure that Team input required documentation in a timely fashion into CARES.
Organizes and facilitates internal case conferences as needed.
Oversees implementation of daytime and/or evening group activities.
Carry a small caseload of clients who need counseling and/or more trauma informed support
Ensure clients goals are being attained and the group is working collaboratively as an interdisciplinary team.
Provide Clinical coverage in the absence the Director of Social Services as needed.
Work collaboratively with the Operations teams to ensure safety of clients and smooth operation of shelter.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Shelter Director and Director of Social Services.
Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Social Work, Human Services or related field
Experience working with the homeless, mentally ill, substance abuse and/or low income populations
Three years of experience working in a residential facility such as emergency shelter, transition housing or supportive housing required.
Experience as a supervisor in a social service environment
Experience with electronic case management systems, and demonstrated ability to utilize and review data to inform best practices in service provision
Ability to work well under pressure, including crisis situations, and be flexible with work schedule when necessary.
Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
