This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information
Responsible for all institutional communications across UT Southwestern. Develops strategic communications campaigns targeting multiple audiences to inform entire UT Southwestern Medical Center community of news and information critical to the institution. Works with minimal oversight to oversee a team and works in a matrixed fashion across Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs to plan, implement and measure outcomes of campaigns. Reports to Associate Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs.
Experience and Education
Master’s Degree in communications, public relations or similar field, required. Ten (10) years of experience in communications or public relations with at least five years doing strategic communications and at least three years in an academic medical setting, required. Requires knowledge of academic medical center and health system structure and communications needs.
Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a similar field, and at least twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in communications or public relations may be considered.
Oversee all aspects of institutional communications for UT Southwestern Medical Center, including providing strategic counsel to all clients on positioning and development/delivery of key internal messages; credibly positioning senior leadership; and ensuring dissemination of timely, credible and accurate communications.
Develop and maintain working relationship with executives and institutional leaders to ensure timely information flow and feedback.
Design, oversee and execute comprehensive, successful and cohesive institutional communications processes, strategies and work plans.
Develop content strategy that fully leverages all marketing and communications products in institutional communications, and effectively manages intranet content.
Manage broad range of projects including defining and implementing content management process, self-service standards and strategies, evaluation tools, and functionality improvements.
Develop the internal communications team to anticipate institutional communications needs and deliver creative and effective solutions.
Identify, develop, and implement strategies to drive culture change across the institution in alignment with key executive leadership priorities.
Bring UTSW institutional communications to level of industry best practices, and stay at forefront of institutional communications.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Work requires skill and previous success of developing public relations or other communications programs that meet objectives.
Work requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong presentation skills and the ability to develop and write strategic communications plans and evaluate and report outcomes.
Work requires detail-oriented project management skills, and the ability to analyze data and measure outcomes quantitatively.
Work requires ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels of staff and executives, across multiple areas of a complex organization.
Work requires solid judgement in interpreting policies to apply editorial standards across all work.
Work requires ability to continually prioritize and organize team projects to meet changing institutional priorities.
Work is performed primarily in office environment.
