UA Brands is seeking a Technical Design Manager to facilitate the transition of product from sketch to final approval. This detail-oriented Manager will collaborate with cross-functional partners on raw materials for both fit and function, including design and production team members, to obtain clear direction and consensus on design aesthetic, fit intent and construction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Correspond daily to monitor, coordinate, assist and maintain sample accuracy & approval status from first submits through size set & production with UA Sample Room, internal departments & factories to meet production schedule with a sense of urgency, courtesy & professionalism
Manages technical development team to ensure specs are consistent, accurate, complete, and emailed or posted to vendor. Create Tech Pack in PLM w/Adobe Illustrator technical sketch & text instructions for construction details, including detailed diagrams and photos. Weekly receive and mail garment & pattern via UPS.
Experienced in working with off-shore factories and knowledge of apparel manufacturing processes. Assist and communicate with factories & internal departments samples received; entering measurements, fit/construction issues, photos, grade rule, and approval status. Recording all data history in PLM
Establish/Maintain appropriate fit block reference libraries and templates to support process and manage consistency, also delivering reduced timelines and fit sample iterations in the product development cycle.
Effectively communicate garment fit discrepancies using PLM to record measurements, construction issues, prototype quality, etc. for in house pattern maker and sample-hand. Resolve construction, fit & quality issues with recommended solutions maintaining deadlines and commercially acceptable product decisions.
Facilitates process to ensure cost effective and consistent garment construction, measurement, and fit across all product categories.
Guide and direct in-house pattern maker on design detail, construction and measurements, etc. using flat pattern making & draping. Check patterns for balance, correct grainline, notches, labeling, seam equality, cutters must and time efficiency.
Ensure products are developed in a manner consistent with established fit and quality standards, manufacturer capabilities and cost specifications.
Identify potential production, quality and costing issues and make recommendations while ensuring brand integrity.
Analyze garments to determine compliance of spec, construction, and fit intent.
Manage and facilitate the fit session on a live model and/or mannequin and take ownership of specific product(s).
Make appropriate fit and construction adjustments with factories as required to ensure the integrity of design-approved prototypes while monitoring quality and targeted price.
Collaborate with business partners to gain clear direction and consensus of fit intent; ensure size and fit consistency within the brand and across product categories.
Conduct weekly fit sessions ensuring execution of design and fit intent translates from concept into bulk production. Work closely with the Product Development to set fit session schedules to ensure buy-ready deliverables. Coordinate sample room time management of pattern development, sample cutting, and sewing
Sketch & Fit analysis; determine design lines and construction according to fabrication and proportion. Evaluate the balance of pattern and garment with specs to communicate corrections to pattern maker or factory.
Knowledge of pattern making and draping for both men/women. Full understanding of draping and Grade Rules; Ability to recognize, correct & communicate improvements & discrepancies.
Must have a proactive approach to prioritize, facilitate and delegate any changes necessary and maintain a sense of urgency and product integrity. Able to multi-task and problem solve.
Knowledge of production manufacturing processes and capabilities.
Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
High level of leadership & management skills including strategic thinking, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, people development, technical design, and process management.
Lead, manage, and sets team priorities, identify workload and capacity constraints. Create weekly/monthly forecast related to TD team project management planning and bandwidth constraints. Leverage this data to anticipate and forecast capacity planning cross-functionally across the Technical Product Development organization to meet deadlines.
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; highly detail-oriented and meticulous.
Superior organizational skills and excellent communication skills; team-oriented.
Professional Microsoft office and PLM software proficiency.
Bachelor's degree in Fashion - Apparel/Textile Design, Manufacturing, Product Development, Merchandising, or a related field OR equal work experience in the industry.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Possess strong working knowledge of MAC, and Windows applications.
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Working knowledge of PLM System or like program (WebPDM) system required.
Knowledge should include a thorough understanding of pattern-making, grading, costing of garments, textiles, garment testing, draping, and fitting.
Thorough understanding of the design & development process from inception through production.
Knowledge of garment construction standards and manufacturing methods of textiles and interlinings and how they interact with the cutting and sewing of a garment.
Ability to properly measure garments according to manual standards.
Attention to detail, initiative, organization and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to multi-task, proactively trouble-shoot, problem solve, and the ability to effectively influence.
