General Statement of Duties: As a Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor working for Developmental Services in an Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) at the direction of the Nurse Manager the staff person may be responsible for the biological, psychological and social assessment of clients. The RN uses all aspects of the nursing process to facilitate the health care objectives of the Individual Program Plan (IPP). The RN collaborates with members of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and other health care professionals in the community to ensure objectives of the IPP are being met as well as the welfare, health and safety of the individuals we serve. The RN may be required to provide technical support, teaching and training to non-licensed staff regarding health care services and medication administration. At the direction of the Nurse Manager the RN may supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) completing performance evaluations, competencies and training for licensed staff. The RN may be required complete quality assurance reviews of client records specific to the healthcare management of the individual. The RN communicates in an effective, respectful, professional manner using methods easily understood by all parties involved. The RN may be required to participate in training's, meetings and participate in community engagements to further support the individuals residing in the ICF. The RN may be required to establish work schedules, monitor and approve LPN leave requests and report to the Nurse Manager on use of overtime. The RN at the direction of the Nurse Manager may be required to provide on call coverage on a rotating basis along with the team of RN's for the ICF's. The RN may be required to work evening, weekends, overnights and/or holidays to ensure adequate nursing coverage to the Developmental Services Division.

Specific Duties with qualitative and quantitative measures of performance:

Completes and/or reviews nursing assessments according to the individual’s IPP and communicates with the QIDP’s to recommend changes to the IPP based on Nursing Assessment.
Aids in the development and ensures compliance with treatment plan objective’s for short and long term medical interventions.
Performs simple diagnostic tests and medication administration per physician’s orders and facility policy.
Follows and ensures staff compliance of all City, Department, Local, State and Federal Guidelines.
Follows ethical standards of practice and work within the professional scope of practice.
May provide leadership, guidance, instruction and oversight to non-licensed staff, as well as LPN’s for medication administration and identifying signs and symptoms of possible illness and to ensure health and safety of the environment and implement protective measures to control communicable diseases.
May complete performance evaluation of subordinate staff memets at the direction of the Nurse Manager.
Develops and maintain collaborative professional relationships with the clients and IDT members.
Completes comprehensive chart audit’s verifying accuracy in physician orders, treatment plan’s and documentation.
Be able to lift or carry unassisted 20 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds regularly.
Participate in scheduled staff training and meetings 90% of the 365 day performance period.
Maintains all current licenses, certifications and competencies that are required to perform the tasks associated with this position including but not limited to: Nursing License, CPR, Defensive Driving, and TOVA.
Participates in the Developmental Services RN On call rotation.
Participates and attends meetings of the SCC and others the Nurse Manager assigns.
Perform all other duties assigned by the Nurse Manager using the knowledge, skills and abilities of the RN.

Requires current and valid licensure as a Registered Nurse by the State of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) and 2 or more years Registered Nurse experience to be specified by the hiring department. Current CPR certification.

Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements.

Special Requirements:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

This position may require that incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, safety footwear, hard hats, safety eyewear, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee’s supervisor based on position assignments.

Intermediate Care Facility (ICF)/Group Home/Long Term Care experience.
Experience working with individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Experience with medication management/handling.
Experience with writing residential treatment plans.
Experience with conducting training and staff education.
One or more years of experience in a supervisory capacity as a Registered Nurse.
Experience in maintaining appropriate staffing patterns.

Special Instructions:
Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or other compact state.

Minimum of (one) 1 year supervisory experience required.

Some homes and facilities operate 24/7. Schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8:30a - 5:00pm. Must be available for on-call or alternate schedule as need arises. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. All ICF nursing positions are designated
