Lobby Market Coordinator (Commons)

Martha’s Table requires all team members and classroom volunteers to have completed a COVID-19 primary series and received one booster dose. Team members who are not yet eligible for a booster must submit proof of their booster vaccination within 2 months of receiving their final primary series dose or an original monovalent booster vaccine to [email protected].

Martha’s Table will consider waiving the vaccination requirement for:

Team members who object in good faith and in writing, pursuant to procedures established by the City Administrator or his or her designee, that the employee’s vaccination would violate their sincerely held religious beliefs; and

Team members who have obtained and submitted written certification from a physician or other licensed health professional who may order an immunization, that being vaccinated for COVID-19 is medically inadvisable because of the employee’s medical condition.

Team members who believe they qualify for either exemption must submit a request for a waiver along with appropriate documentation to support their request to [email protected].

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Martha’s Table Lobby Market is a choice-based healthy food market open Monday through Friday from 11am - 4pm at Martha’s Table’s Commons location in SE, Washington, DC. Guests shop for high quality produce and pantry items at no-cost twice per month at our Lobby Market.

The Lobby Market Coordinator will assist with overseeing the daily operations of the Martha’s Table Lobby Market, which includes: 1) leading volunteer shifts, 2) receiving deliveries, 3) setting up a high quality choice-based market, 4) monitoring inventory of produce and dry goods, and 5) placing next day’s food orders. The Market Coordinator will work primarily from our Commons location in Southeast Washington DC.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Receive and properly store all deliveries from Capital Area Food Bank, Keany, and other vendors. Inspect produce and make sure all items are accounted for and not expired.
Stock produce, canned foods, protein of the day, and dry goods for the market. Ensure proper rotation of product and “First In, First Out” (FIFO).
Ensure that the Lobby Market is set up and staged each morning. Supervise the market and keep it stocked throughout the day.
Lead volunteer orientations and collaborate with volunteers to make sure they have their daily assignments.
Interact with guests to make sure that they are getting white glove service.
Support at the sign-in table to ensure guests are greeted, signed up for the market, and their shopping visit is logged in the tracking system.
Monitor inventory and place next day’s food order with vendors
Report daily number of guests served on tracking sheets.
Clean, sweep and inspect the market area. Close-down the market at the end of the day and ensure all food is properly stored.
Support with admin tasks such as invoice tracking and submission, data entry, and other duties as assigned
Participate in cross-department and team wide projects such as outreach events, food education activities, and anchor events that may require some evenings and weekends

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Excellent “white glove” customer service and strong oral and written communication skills; Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences from all walks of life - volunteers, donors, partners, guests of Lobby Market
Proficient in verbal/written Spanish, preferred
Ability to problem solve, navigate difficult conversations, and/or de-escalate issues with a calm and solutions-focused approach
Experience supporting individuals who may be experiencing homelessness, hunger, or food insecurity
Technology experience with data entry, inventory tracking, and overall experience in MS Word, Excel, and Gmail
Ability to lead and manage volunteers and foster teamwork

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or the equivalent (GED), OR 4-5 years of related experience
At least two (2) years of experience in customer service and food services industry with a strong preference for experience with nonprofit or social service work
Food Handling Certificate required within 30 days of starting this role

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
