Job Description
We’re looking for a Creative Technologist to join our design system team, blending strong front-end engineering skills with a deep understanding of design principles. As a senior creative technologist at NYL, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical vision for our design system, helping bridge the gap between design and engineering to deliver user centered experiences across digital products and platforms of our organization. Key Responsibilities:
- Component Development: Build and maintain responsive, accessible, and reusable UI components in frameworks like React or Web Components, ensuring they meet design specifications and usability standards.
- Component Library Management: Support the design team in refining and evolving reusable UI components, ensuring they are built pixel-perfect and consistent with standards.
- Collaboration with Development: Work closely with front-end feature teams to ensure that component specifications are accurately implemented and troubleshoot discrepancies between design and code. Prototyping and Experimentation: Ensure coded library supports ability to rapidly build prototypes to test design concepts, providing feedback on interaction patterns and component behaviors, and iterating based on feedback.
- Design System Maintenance: Collaborate with design and development teams to evolve and maintain the coded component system, managing updates, and ensuring documentation is clear and accessible.
- Documentation: Work closely with designers and technical writers to document design and development guidelines, component usage, and best practices for internal stakeholders.
- Accessibility and Performance: Ensure that all components are built to accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1) and are optimized for performance across multiple devices and platforms.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a bridge between design and engineering feature teams, advocating for the best user experience while balancing technical feasibility.
- Research and Innovation: Stay updated with emerging technologies, design system best practices, and tools that could enhance the efficiency or functionality of the design system.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and user testing to ensure quality and alignment with the design system standards.
Key Skills:
1. Expert in front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks).

Years of experience Required:
5+ years of experience in front-end development, or UX engineering role.
Requirements:
Education & Experience: Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 5+
years of experience in front-end development, or UX engineering role.
Technical Skills:
- Expert in front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks).
- Experience with design tools and familiarity with handoff processes.
- Knowledge of component-driven design and development methodologies.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
- Experience with version control
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a passion for creating polished, efficient user interfaces.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical details to both technical and non-technical team members.
- A collaborative mindset with a proactive approach to bridging gaps between design and engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Experience: Prior experience working on or contributing to a design system, preferably in an enterprise environment.
- AI enabled workflows: Building and maintaining code libraries that align with approved component standards, using AI along the process to build and validate code with greater efficiency.
- CMS and Web Performance: Basic understanding of CMS integrations and performance optimization techniques.
