Full Job Description

Job Summary

The Roof Truss Designer is responsible for designing safe, accurate, and code-compliant roof truss systems for residential and light commercial construction projects. This role works closely with sales, production, and customers to deliver efficient designs that meet structural requirements, job specifications, and production capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

Design roof truss systems using Alpine truss design software.
Interpret architectural and structural plans, specifications, and load requirements
Apply building codes, engineering standards, and industry best practices
Ensure designs meet wind, snow, seismic, and live load requirements
Optimize truss layouts for material efficiency and manufacturability

Project Coordination

Communicate with sales, builders, engineers, and architects regarding design intent
Review customer changes and revise truss designs as needed
Provide technical support to production and field personnel
Assist with resolving design conflicts and construction issues

Documentation & Compliance

Prepare truss design drawings, layouts, and placement plans
Ensure all designs are sealed or approved by a licensed engineer when required
Maintain organized project files and revision histories
Verify designs meet company quality and safety standards

Manufacturing Support

Coordinate with production to ensure designs are buildable and efficient
Address shop questions related to truss geometry, materials, or connection details
Assist with troubleshooting manufacturing or jobsite issues

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
Experience in roof truss design or structural design preferred
Proficiency with Alpine truss design software
Ability to read and interpret construction and architectural drawings
Strong math, geometry, and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of residential building codes and load requirements
Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

1–5+ years of roof truss design experience
Knowledge of lumber grades, connector plates, and framing methods
Familiarity with IRC, IBC, and local building codes
Experience working in a truss manufacturing environment
Excellent communication and time-management skills

Work Environment

Remote-Based but with frequent interaction with company staff
Occasional jobsite or production floor visits
Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
Occasional lifting of drawings or small materials
Visual acuity for reviewing detailed plans and drawings

Performance Metrics

Accuracy and code compliance of designs
Timely completion of projects
Responsiveness to internal and external customers
Reduction of rework and production issues

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
