Full Job Description

The Senior Accountant, Commodity Accounting assists with monthly close tasks pertaining to derivative and non-derivative commodity transactions, including physical and financial natural gas, LNG, transport and storage arrangements. Candidate will assist in preparing and reviewing quarterly and annual SEC Form 10Q/10K footnote disclosures and related support for financial and physical derivative transactions. The team also is integral in preparing monthly financial analysis and forecasting reports for executive management and trade floor personnel. The role includes active use of the energy trading and risk management (ETRM) system and interaction with individuals on the trade floor for timely reconciliation between Front- / Mid- and Back-Office. Responsibilities also include, in collaboration with team members, researching accounting and disclosure requirements for specific commodity transactions.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assist with preparation of footnote disclosures and management discussion and analysis for respective SEC registrants and voluntary filers, which will entail effective coordination between Commodity Accounting and Financial Reporting/SEC Reporting.
Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis, summarizing trends, variances and key metrics for management
Research accounting treatment for specific commodity transactions, including application of regulatory reporting requirements pursuant to the Dodd-Frank, EMIR, MiFiD, REMIT, and other commodity-related global regulations.
Analyze and organize large amounts of data utilizing various Microsoft Excel and EPR system functionalities
Ensure successful interface between ENDUR-OpenLink ETRM and Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for monthly accounting entries
Prepare journal entries and review accounting classification pursuant to U.S. GAAP requirements
Reconcile, analyze and review general ledger accounts in preparation for month end close, to ensure the accuracy and validity of accounting transactions on the organization’s books and records
Liaise with other departments and business personnel, along with both internal and external audit, to support information requests

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge:

Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements and awareness of ongoing changes in accounting regulations.

Skills:

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work with all levels of the Company
Ability to anticipate and surface issues, solve problems and recommend solutions and process improvements, while exercising good business judgement

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education, Training and Certifications : Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or a closely related field of study required. Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or active pursuit of a CPA license is highly preferred.
Experience : 3+ years of applicable Accounting experience pertaining to knowledge and requirements for this role, preferably within either public accounting or the energy commodities industry.
