Who we are:

Lawndale Christian Development Corporation was established in 1987 by the Lawndale Christian Community Church to fulfill the call to do justice in Micah 6:8. LCDC organizes with the community for the power to eliminate health and wealth disparities in North Lawndale. We develop and manage affordable mixed-use housing, create homeownership for working families and build cooperative businesses.

Who we are looking for:

The Senior Director of Accounting manages the accounting personnel as well as all financial functions. This position oversees the preparation of financial statements, board reports, budgets, job cost accounting, mortgage valuation, tax compliance and audit activities of the organization. Hours of operation are M-F 9am-5pm.

Primary Duties:

Mission Alignment:

Understand, believe in, and effectively communicate LCDC's mission and principles.

Financial Management:

Maintain the chart of accounts and establish new accounts as needed.
Draft annual budgets for the organization, departments, and projects in collaboration with department supervisors and the Director of Finance.
Ensure proper revenue recognition guidance is followed for income accounts such as contributions, grants, rental payments, and home sale revenue.
Develop and maintain depreciation schedules for fixed assets.

Budgeting and Analysis:

Perform monthly budget-to-actual analysis to monitor financial performance and identify variances.
Prepare monthly board reports, including financial statements with budget-to-actual comparisons for all LCDC owned entities.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Support audits performed by independent external auditors to be completed annually prior to the final week of June.
Assist the Director of Finance in updating and ensuring compliance with internal controls.

Project Support:

Assist with project bids, project budgets, and budget-to-actual analysis for each job.
Conduct cost accounting for all assigned projects.

Tax Credits:

Manage and optimize the use of low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC) and new market tax credits (NMTC).
Ensure compliance with regulations and reporting requirements related to LIHTC and NMTC programs.

Management

· Manage the director of accounting and any project support staff

· Manage external auditing consultants

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in both non-profit and for-profit accounting.
Proficient in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition principles and State of Illinois GATA
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and manage multiple priorities.
Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.

Other Expectations:

· Model Christian leadership and take a biblical approach to conflict resolution.

· Meet weekly with Director to discuss progress on weekly and/or yearly goals and objectives.

· Attend 3 community events each year.

· Participate in community organizing activities.

· Participate in professional development training as resources allow.

· Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; review professional publications; establish personal networks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Master’s level degree in accounting or finance required with emphasis on non-profit accounting or related experience.

· CPA license preferred.

Communication Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Able to vary verbal and written communications to meet the needs of the end users including donors (foundations, corporations, and individuals), Executive Director, Board of Directors, homeowners and partners, management, staff, vendors, and bank employees.

Computer Literacy:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office software required, especially Excel.
Knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software helpful
